I go to the screen with the videos listed, I highlight the video file and push the BB button, then delete. I keep getting the message "file system error"

Have you tried a battery pull??
If I had to take a guess, you're using an sd car taken from another phone and you didn't format it yet? Easy way to remove the videos is desktop manager. This will allow you to get into your bb and remove the videos you don't want anymore.

You could use your computer. Enable mass storage and just delete them that way.
