My company has encryption in the policy and it basically kills performance. Is all the crypto functionality dealt with by the CPU in software? Has RIM thought about a crypto chip?

What do you mean, "kills performance?"

Enabling encryption on the phone slows down the performance of the phone because all of the files and memory it accesses has to be decrypted first and any changes encrypted.

I have the same problem. Ever since Corporate enabled encryption, my phone has become unusable.

I have an 8800. I've disabled encryption of the addressbook and disabled compression. I little better, but still unusable.

Do the 9000's fair better? Do they have a dedicated crypto chip? Is there a model that does?
