Battery saving mode works just fine for me. Low screen intensity and short on time allows a full day with no worry on the 9810.

I don't see how adding an application (more processor cycles used) can improve battery life. It is highly unlikely that a "user level" application could ever have access to the low level processes which control loading and performance. The most it can hope to do is show you state of charge and the load applied by other active apps - and that activity also causes additional battery load for processor and display activity.
The battery drain meters are pointless and useless because radio performance and usage variations probably make more difference than the gain claimed by the apps. The only realistic proof outside laboratory testing (do any users have a cellular test rig?) will come from long term testing - find the average life over several days in as near as possible the same usage pattern, then repeat with/without the target app. Repeat several times to determine the variation between tests... statistically it probably needs at least 8-10 tests of each condition, and a "control" phone which is maintained unchanged would also help.

I would recommend against any "battery saving" app. I've tested a few just for kicks. I found they either used more than they saved, or saved some by automatically making the same chanes we know work (reducing screen brightness; dropping to 3G, etc.). I prefer to make my own decisions about how to maximize battery life. I do have the Battery Saving mode enabled, but at 20%. I have no problem making it through the day on a charge. That's all I worry about.

The Battery Saving mode is just fantastic. I've tried many battery and memory booster apps and they all drain my battery and memory. Plus the battery life on v7.1.0.402 is great.
So I vote for the Battery Saving mode.I rock a BlackBerry Z10
