    Kind of random...

I've noticed a lot of people on here with "backup" blackberries? So, I'm just wondering... why? Was it an older phone that you never threw away? Or did you just go out and by a new berry just for that purpose?

Also, what is your main phone? And what do you use for your backup?

I used to have a Pearl 8130, but recently got the Curve 8330. I kept my Pearl just in case anything happens to my Curve so I have an immediate replacement.

when dashwire comes out for the bb platform, having a spare is handy.
You can just download all your PIM info from their site and you can be up in running in a half hour and use that phone until your replacement is sent.
I agree, most are leftovers. I still have a regular flip phone that if something happens I can just activate that until the replacement arrives.

My main phone is a Storm. I have an 8330, a Palm Treo, and an 8830 besides. I'm going to update the Curve and load my contacts on it in case the Storm dies. Then it's just a change via VZW online and I'm back in the saddle.

I had many treos before my blackberry.
I bought my blackberry ans started selling the. Treo's on craigslist and someone wanted to trade my 800w for his blackberry.

So I now have a spare. Thank god I do because the screen just cracked the other day and I have to wait for cnn.cn to send me a new one.

I'm actually buying a backup but it was pretty cheap only 40 bucks. I got a used 8703e coming. I used to have an 8700c from ATT for my work, and I have a fondness for the 87XX series.

My main BB is a Curve 8310, but I've got an 8700g and a 7105t (both unlocked) waiting in the wings in case something happens to it.

I don't have a home phone -- my BB is it -- and I communicate with my son and my GF (during the week) via text and e-mail. So without a BB, I'm pretty much dead in the water.

That's not a bad idea with the cost of verizon now being 89.00 and 8.00 a month (I still have the 50.00 month deductible, grandfathered in).....

    used phone off of ebay...150?

insurance two years is 192 plus 89.00 deductible...

I started out using a Pearl and recently upgraded to the Curve 8320. I've held onto my Pearl in case anything happens to my Curve or if it malfunctions and I have to send it in for a warranty exchange.

I have my old HTC Touch on hand in case, God forbid, something happens to my Pearl and I have to send it off to be fixed. Believe it or not, my provider does not have lender smartphones!

I don't have a backup blackberry (Though I might soon if I win that Storm auction on ebay :P) but my first smart phone was the Moto Q, and I still got that incase my Curve dies.

I bought my Curve because of poor call quality and issues with receiving calls on my Storm, so the Storm became my backup. However, the Storm is a world phone and since it has a SIM card slot, I got it unlocked and use it when I go overseas.

I couldn't imagine not having a backup berry.

If my phone breaks/needs service, how will I get my phone calls if I don't have a backup phone? I would also hate having to revert back to a dumbphone since I couldn't get my email and such.

My backup berry is a 7290 BB, unlocked. I bought it off of eBay for 30 bucks + free shipping. It's cheap and I don't care what happens to it. I've used it as a back up on several occasions and it's great for that purpose...email, some IM, texts, and phone. Nothing more.

I have a Curve and a Storm. I got the Storm as an alternate/back up. I knew it wouldn't actually replace the Curve just from reading on here but I was in the market for a back up and just never liked the Pearl other than it's size. I have a dumb phone as well and it works fine but the thought of using it even for a week after having a BB is unsettling.
I was going to just get another Curve but found my Storm for under $300.00 on here. Actually works a lot better than I'd thought it would after I loaded (the leaked at the time) .148.
It works well enough to be a back up and is fun to switch to on the weekends.
I am actually just about to switch back to the Curve right now and then if I have time tonight load a hybrid OS on the Storm and see how that is.

I keep all my devices. I like to be able to change devices anytime I want. I currently have 3 8320's, 3 8700g's, 1 8703e, 5 7290, 5 7250. I keep 5 activated at all times and swap devices for myself due to my carrier field. One my curves I run a beta on one a hybrid on another and an official on the last one.

I had a curve, my friend gave me the World. I actually dont care for the curve, but love the WE. Im keeping my WE as a backup once I get my storm tomorrow, but im getting losing the curve.

Mainly a backup for me, but I also really am (for whatever reason) super attached to the World Edition

I'll be getting the Tour when it comes out for Sprint. From what I've read here the Tour is gonna be a World Phone. With my OCD, I feel the need to have a backup berry to match my main device as closely as possible.

With that being said, would the BB 8830 WE be the best option for me?
