Why is there auto rotate on the passport? It's 1:1 screen

I'm interested -someone please explain this.

Perhaps there will be some use for it where it would be advantageous to have the keys on one side (sort of like a thumb stick on a game console controller).

It works well when viewing a Web page. You can use the keypad to scroll.

Because it's got a keyboard.. if it was full touch there wouldn't be a point

Because if they didn't have it, someone would complain about it. Plus you can do rotation lock if it bugs you. I like that fact that they give us the option. People love options.

Not necessarily... it's a 1:1 aspect ratio... there's no "landscape or portrait " it's always the same. you'll see the same thing whether you hold the keyboard to the bottom or the side. If it made sense y not have auto rotate on the q5 or q10....?

For the people who hate the auto rotate feature, please don't be close minded. The device is not yet out. All we have seen are just leaks.

Maybe landscape triggers dynamic aspect ratio changes?

Seriously, that is one of my main concerns..i hope this thing renders sites and apps in all their glory somehow

I think some apps (android) require landscape mode so that makes it useful(?) I guess..

Easy browsing, or in reader mode, you turn the phone to the side and swipe with the thumb up and down along the keys to move through the reading (more practical than swiping on the keys down the screen)

Chances are that it doesn't really make sense but it wasn't really that well thought out. While it's true that someone would eventually have complained about it, it should probably be locked to portrait by default as it will mostly be an annoyance for when people lie down and read.

I'm not hating on it. I just think there must be some other really cool reason besides the scrolling.

Chen mentions some accessories that they're building to compliment the device... I wonder if that has something to do with it?

    1. So you can prop the device up when the charge/ hdmi cord is plugged in.. (cord plugs in the bottom)
    2. Different size photos. Depending on what you shot in etc....
    3. Better scrolling experience while on the Web.
I don't know, I'm sure there are a ton of reasons we don't know about?

A major flaw with BB is the need for wireless charging, also if Sony can wetproof...
