How might I manage this? What is the cost? Does anyone know how ATT does their early termination or early upgrade?

I think AT&T very clearly states what the ETF is for whatever your device is. Somewhere around $250 or so, I think.

They do let you upgrade up to 6 months before your contract time is officially up. I can upgrade now if I want, even though my contract is really up in December. But I may wait it out for BB10 (or longer if I wait for the refurbs to cycle through).

I'm on AT&T with a business BB, and they will let me upgrade a year early on my 2 year contract. But they'll only do this if I get another BB (if I want an iPhone then I have to finish my contract), and I'm unsure if BB10 would count.

they have the info here: Early Termination Fee Policy
and here: AT&T Wireless- Early Termination Fees

Early Termination Fees for contracts before June 1, 2010

If you signed your wireless contract before June 1, 2010, your Early Termination Fee is $175, less $5 for each full month of Service Commitment completed.
Early Termination Fees for contracts on or after June 1, 2010

If you signed your wireless contract on or after June 1, 2010, your Early Termination fee is $325, less $10 for each full month of Service Commitment completed for a netbook or wireless smartphone
Also, there isn't even an official release date for BB10. Why are you worried now?

Thank god I left the bull of contracts a while ago. Its pretty expensive I think if your contract will expire like next year, wait for the newer bb devices. (they may come out) or if you have a craze, dish the extra $$$ and go for it!

Then why would you have to worry about paying a termination fee? All you'll have to do is buy the device at full cost. At least that's how it works on T-Mo.

If you are on a family plan already you can add a line for $10/month. For 2 yrs and grab the device subsidized @ prob 199. Final cost 440 vs most likely close to 600 retail. Then ask them to put it back on your existing line. (Its called a cross activation. You have to do the mathnd see if it plays. If you post your current at&t plan (min, txt and data plans) I can give you a better answer or just call and ask about it.

You'll get a text telling you if you can upgrade and at what additional cost if you're still in contract. You'll get something like this:

As a valued customer, we can offer you an upgrade with a new 2-yr commitment and a $36 upgrade fee
