I'm not really sure. Maybe because they didn't anticipate the large # of applications that would be developed for it and people's wide use of them.
Or it may also be that they are doing it now because of their strong emergence into the consumer in addition to the business market. Most BES users probably didn't have a lot of apps on them previously either because it wasn't allowed by their IT depts or b/c they only used the devices for business.
Either way I'm happy lol. Yea it would be nice if it were going to be greater than 128 tho.

Like all other manufacturers everything has to be done in stages. I guess its the same as asking a 10yr old college questions which he might or might not know.

About 10 years ago, when Research in Motion was designing the first BlackBerrys they made the decision to use the ARM embedded processor. This was the best of the rest at the time.
Unfortunately, one of the limitations of the ARM design was a limit of 64 Mb of addressable memory.
Bold, and newer models will use a more sophisticated embedded processor. Addressing huge amounts of memory is now possible.
Make the rich, richer and the poor, poorer.. Why release a device with 100gigs of memory when they can release in stages and make all the money inbetween.

Yes, this was my best guess, as well. But, breaking into the consumer market, esp against the iphone, that comes in 8 ad 16 gig flavors... I would have thought a stronger showing than 128 MB...
The bold is going to have 128mb of RAM, plus a gig of internal mem. Why have they waited so long to had mem? And, why only upgrade the mem to 128???
I'm hoping they're not doing the way Palm did things awhile, which is to try to be very "slim", which killed them when Windows Mobile became too powerful . Many users would rather have more memory to do things.
In fact, the iPhone has 128 Mb of addressable memory, just like Bold and Storm.
Pride of place now goes to 8900 with 256 Mb addressable. Huge applications are now possible.
The Tour also looks to be getting 256Mb of addressable memory, I wonder if that is the limitation of the new processor, or if that is a current design limitation.
