Since you'll have android apps from its store it won't cost too much to invest on the Kindle knowing you've already invested in its ecosystem via BlackBerry.

No, too many people I know have replaced their Kindle Fires's due to the lack of app support.

I think the original Kindle or Kindle white is still a great device, but the Fire's lack of Instagram has hurt it as much as it hurt BB10.

Nope. As long as I can access the reader, that's all I need

I just replaced my Kindle 3g with a paperwhite. Already have a ton of books.

I was using my PlayBook as my Kindle reader in the dark, which is fine, but for reading in sunlight you gotta have the real thing.

I'm avoiding the Kindle Fire. Until they make Prime perks available outside the US, it's an expensive partly crippled tablet. I'll stick with my Nexus 7 for that kind of stuff.

Amazon dealing with BlackBerry will have no effect on me supporting them. I will support them as much as I deem reasonable with the resources they offer me in Canada.

I have a Kindle Fire as my reader. Apps.... uhm... were never a consideration. It's a reader, for ebooks, not a tablet. *shrug* To each their own. You get what's right for you.

Had the first Kindle Fire and returned it within a few days. Horrible app selection (at first, and is still lacking) and the fact that the homescreen is basically amazon.com is a complete turnoff for me.

The other Kindles (non Fire) are nice though and something to consider if you want a standalone device to read.

Sony makes the best e-reader hardware I have tried. I love the physical buttons on my prst-1!

No. The Kindle apps are just fine for me. I may get a Kindle eReader, but am not interested in a Kindle tablet.

    Besides, I have a PlayBook.

Have had a kindle paperwhite since late last year. Truly a peerless device for simple reading. I'd still prefer long reading on it on a daily basis. Easier on the eyes and the battery is a champ. I normally read an hour or so daily and I only need to recharge the thing once a month.

Also, Sony converted to kobo store in canada. So I have a kobo mini and now they both work together.

As the OP mentioned "ecosystem", I think he is talking about investing in a Kindle Fire as a future Tablet. Not a Kindle Reader....

A Kindle, or a Kindle Fire?

I still have my Kindle, I still think it's better for reading on, but you know, I can't be bothered to carry yet another device around. So I read on the Playbook.

When it dies, what to get....well that's up for discussion.

I've carried the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 since it's release. Solid piece of equipment. I've been a Prime Member since day one so it was a natural progression.

I'm a prime member too but I didn't like the specs of the kindle and not being able to put an sd card in it was a complete no go for me.

The Kindle Fire HDX had one of the best tablet specs when it was release, i think. The only downfall for me is that its not a full Android. Missing tons of big name apps.

Box and Dropbox eliminated any need I had for an SD card on the Kindle.
