Anyone buying either new BB 10 devices full price without a contract?
I'm sure a lot of BB users are in the same situation as me, getting a Bold 9900/9930 in 08/21/11 with your upgrade not available until at least June of 2013. Just curious how many people will buy either the L or N series BB 10 off contract and pay full price (I assume around $600-$700 at launch) I myself (like others) may be lucky and by June, July or August of 2013 the BB 10 will be discounted to at least $199.00-$150.00 on upgrade renewal. So Crackberry addicts, who will pay full price on release day?

I would prefer not to pay full price. I'm hoping that there will be a strong push for BB10 like there was for the iPhone from carriers... meaning, even though I'm not at the end of my contract, hopefully there will be a promotion for me to sign a new 3-year contract...

I refuse to sign contracts and pay for all phones up front - so yes

I may do that simply so I don't have to play the carriers' contract game and actually have some leverage over them to negotiate better plans etc.

I hope RIM sells unlocked devices so that we have the option to not have to put up with carrier bs (AT&T). I will definitely be buying unsubsidized.

I need to check when my contract ends. However, seems like I remember Verizon warned me they are not doing the 2 year upgrade deal any longer? And for sure when I go to BB10 my old unlimited data plan goes away (and along with it my loyalty). What carriers are offering a contract deal?

I feel for you fellow BB users in Canada, having to do three year carrier contracts, then having to pay full amount for a BB 10 if you want it before your carrier agreement expires. Like I said, my contract upgrade with Sprint allows my eligible upgrade on 06/21/13 , and I will defiantly wait until then, unless I hit the lottery

You should consider using Sprint as your next carrier. They offer a nice 450 anytime mins, unlimited data and text BlackBerry data plan for $80.00 per month.

I will be buying straight no contract.
Saving the upgrade for the next iPhone, quite possibly skipping the 5. The London's size is so close to the iPhone 5 I will have gotten used to it be next summer.
Or maybe the next Note. Intrigued about that one too.
Or the Lumia 920. Intrigued about that one too.

Isn't it amusing how people who claim to not enjoy CB at all simply can't stay away????
It's because it's CRACKBERRY, the BEST BB site....

I'm due for an upgrade in January. However, I will hold out until April (or later) when my contract ends for three reasons: 1) To give me a better bargaining position with my carrier 2) Let the release bugs be addressed 3) Figure out how far out in time the Aristo device is.

I always buy the phones out as if you really think about it you don't save anything. A little more upfront means that you can leave cost free if sometging happens with your carrier.

I'm seriously considering paying full price for the first time. I'm on T-Mobile and they will probably continue to sell BB's at a higher price coupled with the fact that a single line of service isn't cheap anymore on contract. I'm thinking about a non contract setup.

Cellular system is excellent in my country, except for the lack of 3g and 4g
The "contract" never involves a device and are usually super cheap. So i pay around $10 monthly for unlimited BIS. Calls to US cost umm lemme see .... approx forty minutes for just $1
local calls are almost half that.
So bottom line yes will but BB10 device at full price always have bought devices at full price and never been tied to a traditional contract.

Not really. Depends on how close you are to the renewal upgrade with you're carrier. IMO, I'm going to wait until my Sprint contract expires, which will give me any choice of carriers or device.

I am! I'm with the OP. I have a Torch 9810 with AT&T that I got right after it launched and I'm not due to upgrade until March. I've been looking into getting out of my contract for a while now and I think I'll have my chance when the L-Series releases. I'm going all-out with BB10!

I always get my devices off contract, so yes
