Keep those fingers crossed... but, I doubt it. From what I understand, the 9000 series (Bold) is the replacement for the aging 8800... but, maybe they'll make a camera-less Bold?
Seriously I live in the most military town in the United States and I think it is ridiculous that Verizon only has three phones without a camera! So us military and government contractors can not get a decent phone because if they don't have a camera they pretty much suck! Someone give me good news and tell me that BlackBerry will eventually release a newer phone without a camera!
I wonder if there is someone who can create an app to delete the camera off the phone for people like yourselves? If anyone out there hears this, make it happen!
The BB World Phone is camera-less.

VB here ATT has same issue we have no cameraless phones. Check newer BB's may be able to have the camera module removed physically. I have heard this is possible but do not know for certain
Well thats not problem! the problem is that we can not have a camera on our phone at all because of the whole activated and deactivated camera. Security would not the difference. I heard the Storm...its camera can be disabled but in that case it would not work for me because you can still physically see a camera. The camera can't be visible on the phone! The security I go through work each day it quite intense finger prints and retinal scans.
I have the Blackberry 8830 now! In the future will they release one without a camera though?
Keep in mind the single largest group of BlackBerry subscribers is the US government. There will always be options for camera-less BBs, either that they will be made that way, or that you will be able to remove it physically. Also any users that are on a BES, you can have the camera disabled via IT policy.
Well if there is a new BlackBerry without a camera I hope verizon gets it cause I do not want to switch service providers. My BlackBerry works everywhere I go which is great for me! If it does not work it is not in a important area which is not a big deal for me!
I feel for you but I don't think anything will fly unless there is no camera and never was a camera. The silver lining your cloud has is that at least you can carry your cell phone. We have protocols in place where all cell phones, PDAs, cameras, etc., are confiscated when we are deployed.
Well we need a new BlackBerry w/out a camera to arise! Give me your thoughts!!!
I doubt new BB without cam in 8800 series will be coming out that shortly... perhaps in future within 8 months or so lol... I'd say stick with the 8800 series for now though... or get a phone and custom cover up camera somehow?
Have you tried contacting RIM customer support and addressing your concern with them?

It maybe sneaky (and most likely illegal) but what about those battery covers that cover up the camera hole? I'm not intimately familiar with most other devices but I'm sure I saw a cover for my 8330 that has no hole for the camera.
I was thinking along Mike13's lines at first...
The market for this is too niched. Carriers won't likely allow a NEW blackberry to have NO camera because, at most, maybe a few dozen or a few hundred people are going to want this option. Can't you just get TWO phones? A BB for personal use and a really cheap no name phone that you can swap the SIM card into when you drive on base?
While that may work for some, others may use their BBs for work. Also, CDMA users don't have an easy way to swap phones.
HTC does this on a lot of their models... they include a NC (no camera) option.
See if you can get a replacement battery cover that does not have the hole for the camera. I think they sell them so it would be something to look into for the newer bbs.

B.Nelson, you wouldn't by chance know what other contractors around here have that policy? I'm applying with a couple of different ones (Northrop Grumman, L3, General Dynamics, etc) and curious about the policy. I mean, I use an 8830 so it's not an issue right now, but I would like to upgrade to a different phone/carrier so it may become an issue in the future :/
I'm sure if you spend $3,500 like Obama did you probably can have one made for you. J/K
General Dynamics ARE the ones making the Barackberry :P
Norsk,
You can not have a camera on your phone at all in the ship yard! I want a new model to come out w/out a camera!
Is this just a shipyard thing or is it a DoD thing? Most of the contractors I listed would have me working in an office, in Norfolk or VB. (I'm a technical writer btw)
Not every part of the DOD restricts phones, but depending on the sensitiveness of the job would require different rules. Building a ship is highly sensitive, as are Mechanics working on planes like the Stealth Bomber and Electronic countermeasures etc etc.
