While I love listening to music, MP3's, etc.. sometimes I enjoy listening to the news and politics radio shows on various AM radio stations.

I'd love to have an AM tuner in my next BlackBerry phone since I'm not always in a car or at home when I want to listen to it. Sometimes while I'm out for a walk I'd like to tune in to a talkshow.

Any chance this will turn up in future devices?

I don't know if there will be a tuner in the new upcoming models (although I do recall hearing something about it in some sort of patent? Someone else might be able to answer that). However, there are plenty of radio apps that you can peruse. The one I use is TuneIn.

TuneIn is one option, but the idea is to not gobble up data with streaming media.

I would assume the OP means AM, since most talk shows and news are broadcasted on that frequency. FM is usually for music.

Beside TuneInRadio, there is also iheartradio to stream Clear Channel stations and Nobex Radio to stream CBS stations.

BB just released OS 10.2.1 January 28th. The FM tuner works but I'd like to get AM radio now - I like listening to news too. Any word on AM being available? I'm using my data plan to get AM radio through app, not good. Low tech please BB.

The hardware required to receive and tune AM stations isn't installed into any of the phones. It's not merely a software update.

Depending on where you live you might have some of the news channels on FM as well... here in Calgary 99.1 is CBC radio..

AM radio hardware receivers are much much larger than that of an FM radio receiver. It adds a lot of unwanted bulk for a feature that most people would not use.

I actually don't know of any portable devices that have AM radio in them.
