Not a hoax, I posted we(Alltel) were going to get it in June or July. Well because we test all of our phones for 100 days they did find some "bugs" with the 8830. One of the big problems was battery issue. Well I'm glad to report that on Aug 16th we WILL be launching the 8830!!!! So get your sleeping bags and chairs to camp out! I don't know the price of it yet but when I do you'll be the first to know!!!!!

Great news. So is the Curve a long shot, or even a shot at all in the foreseeable future? Or should i just bite the bullet and pack a lunch as i wait in line for this one?

I just heard from my Alltel rep that she received an e-mail today saying the 8830 would be delayed because of a software issue. No detail on the delay.

Nope that is wrong info! Stright from a RIM employee's mouth. Its a production issue! He is not sure if this will delay the launch or not. We got all of our stuff so the 8830. Flyers, cds, tips and tricks, posters ect.... So right now it looks to be on time. The only thing I could think of software problem is that they may wait to launch for OS 4.3, but we could just as easily upload the software....

    Can't wait!
I had to go in to an AT&T store today with my mom. Heading right for the BlackBerry's and started playing around. The keyboard on the 8830 is a bit different. Love the Curve. Still keeping my fingers crossed that the Curve might show up at Alltel.

I think you will be waiting a WHILE for a cruve to hit Alltel. Until then there is allways the new 8830! I think we will be getting a pearl sometime in 08' but who knows....

Can't do the sure-type on the Pearl. I'm sure it is a wonderful device, (afterall, it is a BlackBerry) but I guess I will have to learn to love the 8830!

I was really talking myself out of the 8830, then my husband goes and spends a fortune on a misting system for the tailgate parties for the Cardinals games. I understand the mist sytem since it's 110 degrees outside, but for the Cardinals games??? I don't feel so bad about the expenditure now!

When is Alltel going to offer phone service in Wisconsin?

I just sell the phones, I don't know when where a state, county or town gets service you have to call 1-800-alltel-1 and see if they may know. Sorry

As I patiently wait for the 8830 to launch on Alltel, I am reminded that I could jump ship for ATT&T and get the Curve. Any suggestions?

Any news on the launch date of the 8830 on Alltel?

I say jump ship! But, check the service in your area, and near where you work.

You'll love the keypad more on the Curve, than the 8830...

Alltel will be releasing the 8830 on Thursday, August 27th... FINALLY!

The two-year price for the BlackBerry 8830 is $349.99 with a $100 mail-in rebate, resulting in a final price of $249.99 to the Customer. A Smart Choice Pack or BlackBerry feature is required with this device.

Can't wait to upgrade from my 8703!

I have an 8830 in my possession!! And its my first BB!!

Here is a question and I will proclaim my ignorance up front. This is my first BB, and I am curious about the stamp on the back of the casing, which reads: “wi-fi certified.”

Am I reading too far into this or is this subliminal?

OK...here is my 8830. One photo of the front, so you know I am not BS'ing and the back where it indicates the "wi-fi certified" stamp.

Any ideas about what it means, i haven't discovered an option for it, but of course, i really don't know what i should be looking for either.

Wow, I think maybe they gave you the wrong battery cover. It's pretty cool though.

I think if you go to Manage Connections you would see wi-fi setup or settings if your BB was wi-fi capable.
