just switched from a bb storm to bb tour 9630. Tough choice..I don't know which one I like better..they both have their positives and negatives..What made me switch was that on the tour I was able to change the faceplate covers, I've always wanted a powermat, and of course extra memory

Just switched from a storm 1 to a storm 2. I'm loving the app memory. Haven't had the device for a full day and I'm already on a leaked os.

I have been through BBs, then other devices, then back again, then away again. Currently, I have a prepaid flip-phone because of my smartphone addiction. I used to have an Iphone 3GS, and it was the best device I had ever owned. But I found that I was spending an exorbitant amount of time uSing it for everything. It had become a big problem. These smartphone manufacturers are dumping as much functionality as they can into these devices to make consumers completely dependent. In the past, if I broke or lost my phone, it wouldn't be a big deal. Now, if something were to happen to my smartphone, I would feel lost. Appointments, numbers, documents, important emails, notes would be lost. Because of this, I would pay more in accessories, insurance, and other safeguards to protect my all important device. It had gotten ridiculous. I wanted to be freed from my device because it was so addicting. I like the BlackBerry because it isn't as addictive for me. I use BlackBerry for productivity purposes only. I rarely even looked at the app store when I had a berry. A BB is nice when you need a device to keep you on track during the workday and turn it off once I got home. Or just use it as a phone and messaging when I am away from the office. The Iphone keeps your interest no matter the situation. That's dangerous to me. Currently, I have a flip-phone until I figure out what BB I should get next. I'm am thinking of getting an old school BB like the 8330 for nostalgia. I don't want anything to divert my attention. I want to be able to separate myself from my phone when I need to.

I have been toying with the idea of an Android device. So just for the heck of it I perused the Android section here on CB. Holy crap, what a bunch of moronic children over there! I honestly couldn't believe some of the threads. I went there to try and get an understanding of the device and it's capabilities/shortcomings, but left just shaking my head. I am by no means a "fanboi" of any device, but wow, that just turned me off completely. Maybe I'll wait until the Android "matures" a bit.

Well after years of running AT&T into the ground I finally gave up my storm my storm2 and my tour for the iPhone 3GS. And the worst part of this storybis if vzw weren't such a**holes about my issue and taken the time to actually work with me on all the plans, I'd probably still be their customer.

I bought my storm2 the day it came out and used the hybrid prl since my work location was an alltel 3g area and vzw wasn't, I also used a tour for my work and tethered it at home in a regular basis with my MacBook. About. Week after I go the storm2 my tethering speeds on my tour dropped to around 2kb-4kb a second which let's face it is unacceptable plus the web on my storm2 was just as bad, couldn't download apps etc....

I had trouble tickets opened with vzw, had a manager replace my phones with brand new ones right out of the box and it took me 3 days to get 12 apps back I. The storm2 mind you I had 5 bars and live in a suburb of Cleveland .. So I got the store somehow to credit me for the data plans and half the tethering since I was still using it although I think dial up would have been faster lol

so after a month and still no fix, I called vzw and tried to get credit for the second month everything didn't work, and I was told well you'll have to pay for it and if we deem it's a regional newtork issue we may credit you. I'm like WTF really ? I was told twice my trouble tickets would be elevated to a higher priority and finally after the second one I got a phone call from vzw saying that they found out with the transition of the alltel/vzw merger I'm dropping the 3g where I live and going to 1x and there was no fix but the transition would be until the end of feb and I would not receive any kind of compensation in the bill due to this ??? I'm like WTF !! But.....

What I had done two days before as go get an iPhone 3GS and after that call I went into vzw to shut all the lines off and they tried to put me in a droid I'm like I'm done you already lost me as a customer!

I have to admit that even though AT&T lacks the 3g coverage that vzw does, their edge network is light years faster than vzw's 1x coverage and apps actually work on edge.

The biggest thing I've noticed about my switch of networks and phones ... I haven't had to reboot my iPhone once, and the coverage may not be as good compared to vzw but the data coverage whether in 3G or non 3G areas is still functional compared to vzw.

I loved my blackberries but other than. Few things (like for instance I liked it that the facebook app would read any activity linked with the email and you wouldn't get both and the iPhone I do but the email is the only sound based notification) and I miss bbm lol

I'm in a agreement with a lot of bb livers out there that nothing will get better unless a new OS in introduced. The rumored storm 3 already well unless there is significant changes made to the OS and maybe getting the apps to store on the sd card instead of flash memory since it'll slow down the phone it'll be pointless

Unfortunately whether the storm or storm2 vs iPhone ... The iPhone is the better product and I owned a storm for a year and a storm2 for two months... I've had my iPhone for two weeks and I can't believe how much I've been wrong lol

Guess it goes to say you better watch what you wish for lol

A little late, but I upgraded from an 8900 to the 9700 about a month ago, and it's one of the best decisions I've made in a long time. The keyboard and processing speed made the upgrade really worth it, not to mention UMTS and the trackpad.

Depending on the quote you got, I'd sell the 8900 no reserve on eBay after you find on eBay or craigslist. But if the cost is too great there just get the refurb and sell the 8900 to help alleviate the cost

Blackberry is new to me, I've only have my curve for 8 months and it's amazing how phones seems some advanced compaired to my BB. Blackberry OS is slow, clunky, and lacking typical web features alot of cheaper phones offer as a standard. I got over the concept of "push email" two days after having a BB. At this time, Blackberry is not ready to "move forward" so this will be my first and last BB. I want an iPhone but I'm not a fan of ATT so until iPhone works on Sprint network, I not getting it. Which leaves me one choice: Google Android on HTC. A friend of mine bought a Hero and it's sweet. So, as soon as I can find the apps I want, that will be my next phone, anything Google. To be honest, the only reason I've keeped my BB is because of the apps. But as soon as my investment broker offers apps on the Google platform, I'll be all over it. They just released an iPhone trading app but if it weren't for ATT ... would probably be in my hands at this moment.

Dwayne, great post. Your "addiction" is worldwide - just read the threads all over the net when BIS went down twice in the last couple of weeks and how people were freaking out, not knowing what to do with themselves.

You're totally right. There should be a 12-step BB program for people who are totally addicted (I should talk, I have 3).

I give you a lot of credit for taking the right steps to move away from the "addiction" and go to prepaid where you can control the costs and keep the "thumb play" down to a minimum. Hope it works for you.

You bought the wrong BlackBerry. A curve? Thats a 2 year old phone. The BlackBerry Bold was out 8 months ago even the BlackBerry Storm was out. You can't compare a BlackBerry Curve to an Iphone or even an Android. If you were expecting to get a BlackBerry with the speed of either of those two devices you should have bough a phone that was released at the same time or after the Iphone or Android.

    Advice please!

I'm currently using a Bold (previously another Bold and before Pearls), I have the option of an upgrade to either the 9700 or Storm 2

I like the larger screen on the Storm 2 however hadn't heard any good press on it & only bad press on the original model.

The 9700 is very similar to the Bold albeit no trackball which has been a constant frustration on the Bold. That said similar is familiar & I fancy a change.

    Help & advice appreciated.

I'm keeping my 9000 until the OS v5 problems are confirmed as truly resolved. I can live with a trackball that needs cleaning with alcohol wipes every week or two, and I prefer a real keyboard - but flaky software... No Way.

Back to my query, over the christmas break I've had quite a while using an iPhone & have to say the Apps & memory is way better than RIMs offerings. The iPhone does however fall flat on its battery life & email. On balance I'd say Blackberry far out weighs as a business phone

The build quality of my BB also felt pretty cheap for a phone I paid over $200 for. The wobbly keyboard, cheap plastic material, loose battery door, and unreliable trackball turned me off on the hardware. It's sad because my new flip phone has better build quality.
Main reason why I sold my Curve 8900. Didn't feel premium at all.

Storm2 is much higher quality and feels really premium, I feel like the heavy price tag is justified.

I just purchased a HTC Hero from Sprint to replace my Curve 8330. I would have gone with the Tour, but nothing on it interested me enough. The Curve 8530 isn't "high end" enough. Plus I love my BB but I hate the browser and the lag it seems to love to develop no matter what OS I load on it I also realized that I missed the touch screen my old PPC-6700 had, but not the Windows Mobile part of said phone.

how are u liking the hero so far? I am considering going to that from my 8130. seems like the web browsing would be a lot better. I also have a HTC PPC-6800 that I use which was an upgrade from the PPC-6700 for me. I do agree with u as the phone itself is cool but I also don't care much for WM and im using 6.1.
