For the most part I'm quite happy with my 9860 running 7.1.
It gets a bit laggy sometimes but I can do what I need to and will be keeping hold of it until my contract expires in just over a 12month when I'll be looking at the shiny new Blackberry 10 phones.

What was originally intended to be 6.1 wasn't going to be anywhere near the jump from 6.0 that 7.0 was. 6.1 might likely have run on some higher-end 6.0 devices. RIM took what became 7.0 several steps further than that. All those BB6 and earlier compatible apps that won't run on BB7 should give some indication of how extensive the differences are between the two.

I actually have enjoyed 7.1 and hope that 10 doesn't change so much that we lose all the features we have come to like, such as the simplicity of doing things.

Love it! Couldn't imagine going back to OS 5!
the only thing I miss is the customization. I wish there were more theme options for OS7.
but other than that, its awesome!

I love my 9900, coming from an 8530...

I'm very happy with my Torch 9860 and 7.1 OS, it did take some getting used to the full touch screen keyboard but now a year into it and I would not trade this device for anything. Now I use my torch to type on my Playbook
Love how the devices work so well together, its like it was meant to be or something lol
Cheers

I was very happy when I made the switch from 6.0 to 7.0, but after almost a year, it's time to go elsewhere. Too many little issues that were not being corrected.
I still rock the one berry (asked my company if I can use my old 9900 instead of the 9360), and am loving my new device. I hope BB10 is all that and a bag of chips when it comes out!!!Cuius testiculos habes, habeas cardia et cerebellum...

I've been totally pleased with my 9900. If BB10 comes along, then fine...I'll give it run, if not...then that's fine as well because my 9900 is rockin'!

I am totally happy with my 9810, and os 7.1. They are a great step up from my Curve 8530, and so5, and my 9700, and os6. I especially like the keyboard and touch screen together. My other phone, as you see, is the Atrix 4g, and I think the antennas are equal on both, unlike my underachieving curve and 9700.

My 9900 has horrible battery life...and as someone who uses BBM and BBM group chats, OS hanging and freezing has become too frequent for comfort.
Other than that, it's ok. The app selection is pretty pitiful though. - 07-25-2012, 08:12 AM #37
+1. In my case the phone is a 9810 Torch. Good battery life. Holds signal when my wife's dumbphone loses signal. I have the apps I need and I am good till my contract ends, but I am looking forward to BB10 and hope that it is the springboard to RIM's prosperity. I have always loved an underdog...except when it refers to the Chicago Cubs.
Can you guess I am a St. Louis Cardinal fan?

I know i will probably get bashed for this and be called a troll but i have had the worst BB experience on the 9900. It has so much potential under the hood but there is just something that does not click in terms of user experience; well for me that is.
I spend more time waiting on the hourglass to finish spinning while trying to complete a task than doing the actual task. I have tried everything from clean OS installs, to constant memory cleaning and having the barest minimum apps installed but that damn hour glass just keeps tormenting me. That's not including the hit or miss with the battery life
Patiently waiting on BB10 though and being very optimistic that RIM will hit the ball out of the park with it

In all fairness RIM's biggest issue isn't OS-related.It's RIM cheapening out on their phone's hardware. It's especially evident on their "Flagship" Bold 99xx series.Lack of auto-focus camera,no FFC,last-gen single-core Snapdragon processor,under-powered battery,etc....Not sure how a new OS makes up for these deficiencies. Seriously,if RIM would upgrade the hardware and offer a "refreshed 9920/9950 " they could save a number of wavering BB users who are thinking of leaving for iOS or Android.

I honestly think BB7 can hold up even till today, but I feel BB10 should have carried from there sooner than even this year. Sometimes even the ardent fans of RIM have to say the obvious.
That said, I think RIM has done everything to make BB7 as current as possible, 4G, mobile hotspots, higher specs, HD video recording, but it's time to go beyond, RIM, I know you can do it! - 07-25-2012, 11:31 AM #43
I like my bold 9900 it is the best Blackberry I've ever use to this date.. It is also becoming one of favorite bb's as well.. I left blackberry for a while to try out windows phone, had the lumia 710 on t-mo and it was ok different but a good OS. My main thing was the tiles they didn't update all the time and wasn't reliable I was really missing my notifications options on bb so after 5months I came crawling back and got my hands on a brand new 9900 with t-mo and haven't looked back at windows phone.. Don't need a iPhone cause I have my iPod touch that does me just find for apps and entertainment. Never tried android tho, don't see the need to right now.. I know bb is for me and I'm gonna hang on to my bold as long as I can!

I think your problem is mostly BBM Groups. I haven't heard anyone else have slow-downs due to too many apps or contacts, but I do know that BBM Groups is a pig. I had one group going at one time, and any activity in it bogged down my phone and ate up battery. I can only imagine how bad it is if you're in multiple groups. It wasn't important to me (in fact I found Groups to be more of a nuisance), so I sh*tcanned it. It's a shame because BBM is pretty much BB's flagship feature; but on the other hand, you can't condemn the whole platform because one function of one app is an inefficient resource hog.

Sorry, there's no free pass for RIM for this. BBM IS the main selling point for Blackberry in the UK, in the middle east and in Africa. of course BIS is also key, but you get my drift. I cannot see how you can give RIM a pass for how terribly BBM tasks OS7 devices seeing as how it's a first party app, with (presumably) loads of developers behind it, and how important it is in keeping RIM afloat.
If a first party app that's tightly integrated into OS7 can cripple the entire phone for lengths of time, it's only fair to slag the entire OS. It just means BB OS is not robust or stable enough.
I'm glad i finally found some corroborating evidence for my suspicion that BBM was the main reason for my freezing BB
So this is a known issue and RIM cannot/will not fix it....and people wonder why I like my BB but detest the RIM management. - 07-25-2012, 01:08 PM #50
BBM groups have had that issue as long as they existed. I'm really surprised this has not been fixed yet.
