Does this mean that BBM won't need an active BIS subscription(For OS 7.1)? I switched over to WP a while ago and seeing as how there will be no BBM for WP8, I was hoping I could use my old Bold 9780 for BBM over wi-fi and hotspot without a sim,

Is this possible? Also, will it be the same for OS 6.0 devices?

Its possible on BB10 devices since they dont have to have BIS but I dont know about older BBs and if they still require a BIS plan.

That I did find out when I did my own search.

Currently they do require a BIS plan for BBM, I hope they'll get rid of it soon. Having BIS for OS7 and not for any other OS would only make people jump ships faster.

Also, is 7.2 ever coming? They maybe planning of doing away with BIS in 7.2

I doubt it. BIS is what allowed carriers the flexibility to offer "social" plans - BBM and texting without real Internet access. This feature is/was a huge driver of BlackBerry sales in several markets, and is part of why a new BBOS phone was released.

But then how would people using OS7 feel about it? Everyone else gets BBM for free, wouldn't it only encourage them to switch. The general consensus in my immediate circle is that BB10 devices are overpriced, they all would jump at the opportunity to get BBM and proper internet from switching to Android.
