- Hi,
I've been using the 9790 for two days.
I've noticed that its wifi reception is very weak compared to my 9550. In areas where the 9550 get very good signals, the 9790 put side by side can even barely recognize the wifi network. Sometimes its there, other times it simply says no network found.
I've been reading and found that 9900/9930 are having similar issues?
Anyone else can confirm this? Otherwise i might have to bring it to the repair centre sad, been only two days...11-27-11 11:02 AMLike 0 - But is it really that bad? I mean, here's my ipad showing full 3-bar wifi signal symbol, my 9550 connected very well (in os5 no symbol/bars to indicate the signal strength, it simply shows WIFi, but connections are flawless), and yet here's the 9790 next to it having to be refreshed its wifi several times to see the network. Even when it's connected, only the small dot among the wifi bars lights up, then it might also drop.11-27-11 06:42 PMLike 0
- Took mine back to the store today. Compared it to another customer's brand new unit and the technician admitted that mine's definitely faulty with a very weak reception in general (wifi and gsm). So they gave me a replacement device, not new, but its working great now *though the buttons and keyboards definitely feels different from the first unit, this one feels softer and more wiggly*
He also said that there have also been some other customers having similar reception issue. So for those who thinks they've gotten a faulty device. Compare it to another unit first! Side by side.12-10-11 10:48 AMLike 0 - Relating to this, can anybody tell when Rogers would activate the wifi hotspot?
They said quite sometime ago that this function would be available in the next software update, but since then, they've been quiet. I am aware that 7.01 is out in the wild.
As soon as they have pushed this out, I am going to pick up the 9790. In the meantime, my 9780 is humming along.
Also, IP4S's hotspot is working just fine. So, I am not in rush12-12-11 12:18 PMLike 0 - I'm not too sure if is the device that is faulty... but if some of you guys did a side by side comparison and saw a huge difference that is pretty odd.
One thing i wanted to share just incase people didn't know. The Bold 9780 Wifi only works on b/g connections. The Bold 9790 has a Dual-Band Wifi and can read a/b/g/n which is amazing. I have a brand new Cisco Dual band router at my home, and i noticed that when i'm quite far from the router (have a big house) I was only getting 1 bar for my wifi signal on my 9790, originally i was confused as to why my 9780 was getting full bars at the same location.... but i got the answer to that.
The Bold 9780 connecting to b/g runs only at 2.4 Ghz oddly enough 2.4 covers a broader range vs. the Bold 9790 can connect to both 2.4 - 5 Ghz frequencies, when i have full bars on my 9790 at a further distance i checked and saw that the bands it was connected to were b/g/n (2.4 Ghz), and when i only got 1 bar i checked and it was connected to a/n (5 Ghz) keep in mind that N is both capable of 2.4 - 5 ghz.
The best part is even though i only saw that it was connected to one bar on a/n i was downloading at over 1.5 MB/s (downloading a song, Speed Test apps read upto 14.8 MB/s!!) The 5 Ghz band covers less range the the 2.4 Ghz band, but it can transfer amazing about of data. I've never seen my Bold 9780 transfer anywhere near that fast.
Enjoy this beautiful fast Bold 9790 Device, cuz i am12-30-11 12:53 PMLike 0 - I tried very simple thing as it was told by one of friend
