OK, can someone please clarify what the difference is between all of these? The only thing I know is that with 3G i can receive data while on a call and its the fastest, what about the other types?

3G is third generation cellular service. EDGE and GPRS are 2G, or second generation. 3G is significantly faster than 2G.

So is 2G the same thing as GSM?

Why does my phone switch between these protocols? Whats the logic?

Can the phone switch between protocols while on a call?

How does WIFI compare to 3G in terms of speed when transmitting data?

Wifi is a wired internet connection that's connected to a wireless router. Like at your house or starbucks for example. Way faster than 3G as wireless routers have speeds up to 108mbps. The 3G standard allows downloads up to 14.4mbps
