I am switching over to a social plan from a Data plan, Solo mobile ( my carrier) supports a 3g network, with the social plan will i still see that 3g logo at the top right hand corner of my screen?

If you are getting 3g coverage you should see 3G along with a bb logo beside it.

the symbol will appear regardless of the plan. its part of the phones userface to show it as long as your network supports 3G. if you have no blackberry data coverage, it will say 3g (lowercase) instead.
