The mindset of companies vs Canada "they'll pay full price anyway. No need to discount..."ffs....

Too bad i bought it today at 367Euro on Amazon.de (but at least i should have the 2 years warranty for European products)

ok, i'm sure this was covered at some point, but can someone explain to me like i'm 5 WHY these unlocked phones are GSM (and not CDMA)? $350 for a z30? I'd drop that in a heartbeat if i knew it would work without problems on Verizon.

For the Z10, they have technically raised the price a little. It used to be $299, but there was always a $100 discount code that would work and bring it down to $199. Those $100 codes have been killed off for the Q5 and the Q10--no double dipping.

For rest of the devices, this sale is better than the $100 off. Plus, that $100 off never worked on the Z30 before, but the 30% off does.

Edit: I stand corrected. SAVE100BB142 still work on the Z10, and brings the price back down to $199.

The Verizon Z30 is essentially being manufactured for one large reseller--Verizon. So all the -3s that get manufactured go to them, and that inventory is probably the most controlled. OTOH, there are a lot of resellers for the -5, so there are always "surplus" phones to divert to the ShopBB storefront. Just a guess.

This isn't just a BB phenomenon. Verizon phones aren't very easy to find outside of Verizon retail channels.

Verizon controls the models that work on their network, so their customers have to buy from Verizon.

Right. What they partially control is which devices can be activated on their network. I say 'partially' because now, they have to allow LTE band 13 devices on their network; before that it was completely under their control. They did that by ESN--every phone flashed to Verizon is in their system.

But the bigger problem is that there just aren't a lot of sellers who sell all Verizon phones (BB or otherwise) out of contract. Most of the time, you're limited to having to buy from Verizon. The only possible exception I can think of is Apple--that is, if Verizon allows AT&T or TMO iPhones on their CDMA/b4 networks. And if so, is that as a courtesy to Apple, or an agreement/understanding of some kind?

Must be an exemption of Verizon's normal rules that ONLY applies to iPhones.

That's a good price for the Z30. But I'm happy I got the Z10 when I did for $199. Very happy with it.
