My personal definition of intelligence is this:

Given equal motivation and knowledge, the more intelligent person should reach the optimal solution in a shorter time than the lesser intellignet person.

Please note the use of the word should. This helps take into account flashes of brilliance and bad brain days.

Also intelligence should not be confused with knowledge and education. I have met some real dummies who because they have worked hard at their subjects are now experts. Similarly I have encounterd really smart pepole who, outside their field know little of our subjects.

None of the above negates the value of anyone.
