While running Apollo on my z10 through car speakers, I chose to use sound hound to save the name of a song. I scanned the song, and sound hound identified! How is the phone able to run both apps simultaneously?

One is outputting audio (speaker/ 3.5mm jack/ blue tooh) and the other is using the microphone to listen. Unless they use conflicting resources, they should, in theory, work.

Exactly. If you are listening with earphones, then it doesn't work.
