I went to the darkside until bb 10 comes out. I picked up Samsung galaxy s3 and I got a virus!!! The virus was from a app I downloaded from Google play store. It destroyed my phone. Come on blackberry!

... REALLY.
Sorry, what do you classify a virus, what is the name of this app you claim destroyed your phone, and what is the name of this virus? Because I have 172 apps over 3 different android phones and have never, ever, had a 'virus'
I flat out call bullpuckies on this. Provide the names and the proof, thanks.

Destroyed the phone, LOL

Me too. I would expect malware from a pirate source but not from Google Play. I could be wrong, and admit that I know nothing about Android, but it sounds questionable to me.

Diehard blackberry fan here and I'm curious as to the details of this virus that 'destroyed' the OP's phone. Something doesn't add up here.

I'm curious too, the SIII is a really good device but try this:

My wife bought a Blackberry last year, and the FIRST DAY she takes it out of the box, plugs it in to the computer to charge it and connect it, IT EXPLODED!
Cheap, faulty Blackberry phone exploded and took out not just the computer next to it, but part of the wall too!!
Had to spend 4000$ to repair the damage to the wall, bricks, new computer etc. NEVER AGAIN BLACKBERRY! - 09-14-2012, 11:14 PM #12
There... See how easy that is, lol!
Never heard of a "virus that destroyed a phone" before, and Im pretty sure they don't exist. Never had a problem with virus on Android come to think of it, and I can't think of a friend or acquaintance who has either.
Sure, they exist, just like viruses for Blackberry phones. But as of right now it's more of a theoretical risk than anything else. - 09-14-2012, 11:19 PM #13

I read the reviews on Google Play and the app (in one review) hung the GPS and it drained the battery pretty fast.
This app is brand new and only has 78 downloads. The developer seems legit and is probably working through the bugs.
I did not read a review of anyone else's phone being "destroyed". - 09-14-2012, 11:24 PM

I don't own an android phone or ever heard of this application but Google play shows 81 reviews and a rating of 4.5 stars out of 5. The 1 star review says the app won't connect or work and the 2 star reviews say it's buggy and hangs. I'm not saying something didn't happen to your phone but if you downloaded it from Google play and judging by the 81 reviews I have my doubts its a virus. Maybe a compatibility issues or something? It doesn't sound like a virus to me. Again, I'm no expert and not an android user but something doesn't sound right. Can you give anymore details?

I just don't think it was a virus and I have a feeling the kid at best buy couldn't figure out what happened so he just said it was a virus and reloaded the OS since it was probably the quickest and easiest solution for him
