When you pay to use blackberry you pay for internet and email,, it like having a data plan on any other phone,, so people on android and iOS will still have to buy a data plan

    Hope this helps

There's no difference in BIS or any other regular data plan though (for iOS or Android) I think it def depends on each carrier..

you wont need a data plan even for BBM on iOS or Android. It will work on wifi too. There is no money going to BB or carrier for crossplatform BBM for the basic BBM service.

I don't know in other countries, but in suth america (colombia) you need a BIS plan in order to use BBM in blackberry, it doesn't work in wifi without BIS or a normal data plan.

Hi all, BIS depends on your carrier. I have a Z10, South Africa. I have a normal data plan plus I have a BIS plan (very specific for BBM text only). If I video or attach pics over BBM, it goes against my normal data plan. That said: you don't NEED BIS to use BBM. This is just carrier specific in my case (and its at a discounted rate).

Hello. I have a specific BB plan which is BBM only. Will it work with the BBM for Android/iOS? Thanks!

Should work but you do not need a BB plan when it comes to other platforms as long as you have a data plan, which you have, it should work.

If Blackberry is going to open BBM to other platforms and not require BIS, then they need to do the same for OS 7.x devices - it just makes good business sense. Carriers in the US don't have good BIS only plans. There are plenty of users in the US that would love to use a BB w/QWERTY on WiFi to communicate without the carrier burden of an data plan. And, while there at it they need to put ActiveSync on the OS 7.x devices as well. Both additions are achievable, and would easily increase usage in the US in the non-corporate user base.

This will certainly make me anti-blackberry if an update is not provided to Os7 and 7.1 users to enable free usage of BBM without BIS plan. Blackberry has lost the plot. SMH
