I have been playing around with instant messaging applications lately and I have found that they all have put me on the right and the other party on the left. I assume that BBM will be the same.

So far I have tested.

Why is this?

I would really like to hear a cogent explanation.

With BBM you'll be on the left and the other party on the right.

Actually, BBM is the opposite.

Being on the left sort of makes sense because the text cursor (and your next line in the convo) begins on the left side. However, one could argue that being on the 'right' side makes sense because most 'enter' or 'send' buttons are on the bottom right.
