I understand what you mean. But BBM needs more exposure to people and there are people who use WP and therefore BB needs to get them to join BBM. BB understand that they can't compete so they decided to use BBM for their offerings to people instead

Plus, to be honest, it would help their efforts to get BBM on every platform available and get people to buy into the system, a la Google. How many people, despite what they may say they want to do, do you know that are completely detached from Google's services? There's a reason for that, and that's why it's so difficult to imagine a world without Google.

People don't have that same perception of BlackBerry, so if the hardware side shutdown tomorrow, most wouldn't care what happened to BlackBerry. BBM going cross-platform raises concerns for people now, well at least those that aren't BlackBerry enthusiasts like us.
