I'm traveling to Ecuador on business in June, and would like to avoid a large phone bill. I've read in this forum that if I have access to wifi that I can use BBM messaging and BBM voice for free. Just wanted to verify that before I don't add an international plan to my regular calling plan.
Second, has anyone used this, and did it work okay? I've had issues with BBM voice showing contacts as unavailable, and don't want to be stuck with only messaging.

I use BBM via wifi while travelling a lot. My favorite destination is a cellular deadzone. Works great...

I don't use Bbm voice or video.

Under normal circumstances BBM and BBM voice and video will work very well so long as you have a decent Wi-Fi signal strength. I have used this many times when travelling throughout Europe and it works fantastic!

I have had two notable video calls to Super-Fly FR on this forum. One when he and his family were pool side at a bar in Kenya on Wi-Fi and another with him driving the streets in Paris. He on cell network and me in Wi-Fi. Worked perfectly!

PS: If you have a weak Wi-Fi signal then you will get contacts unavailable etc. I have had this too.
