From my experience, I assume BBM video call works on HD mode only, so yes it will consume a lot of data. Unlike Skype, where it switches between HD and SD mode based on the connection speed. On BBM, you can't make video calls on lower data speeds.
On average, BBM uses around 80 to 120 MB per day (excluding calls).

Just because it didn't happen to you, doesn't make it untrue. I don't know how it happened, but it did.

120 MB per day is more than what instagram uses in a day or Snapchat or any app for that matter, you must have video chatted for a few hours that day.

I'm extremely sorry, I said in a day, but actually that's 48 hours. Device manager shows results of past day along with the present day, my bad. So that's 80 to 120 MB in 48 hours.

And I haven't used video chat during that time. According to web discussions, this mostly happens when you browse channels. So not sure what causes this to happen.

Ok I guess I should have been more specific. So assuming you make one video call for like 5 minutes what kind of data usage are you looking at?

Without calling or video, bbm for me has used 260mb for ten days.

I use bbm quite a lot, chats, channels and groups.

You could switch to WiFi to cut down on the data use as well. If that is an option for you.

Data consumption on 3rd and 13th May is about 30 mins if voice chat, on 8th May is about 20 mins of voice chat. Data use on 15th is 36 mins of video chat.
