Hi all. Not sure if this is the right place. But is anyone truly having crystal clear voice chats. I am using bbm android also talking to the same. And the quality is crap. I can't hear them they can't hear me. It's a ongoing problem. Now I tried the fb Messenger calling for the first time and omfg it was great. Not a single problem. I love BlackBerry and bbm, using a s5 while waiting to fix my Z30. Why can't BlackBerry get this right. Even back to the PlayBook video chat. In the 3 + years with it I never had a successful chat.

I've tweeted to BlackBerry support, opened a few threads on this issue on BlackBerry Support forums from May 2014.... nothing has improved.

The issue is with the HD codec which is down since 2014 and what's running now is SD, hence the absolutely crappy digitised compressed bbm voice calls.

When it worked fine it was better than Whatsapp/FB messenger voice calls.

Can't say the same now, it's absolutely pathetic. Hit poor voice call quality everytime it popus up asking for a feedback after a long conversation on bbm voice.

Don't expect it to work fine either down the line. Versus Skype, imo, whatsapp etc which can run on 2g edge data speeds.

My calls are pretty clear, regardless of cellular or wifi, on my Passport. No issues here. Quality of the connection does make a difference too

My BBM voice audio quality is exceptional with my iPhone-wielding friends, my Android >barf< toting wife, and my overseas friends.

That's strange. I'm getting great voice quality on a much slower connection than what you have.
Are you using a VPN connection by any chance?

Nothing like that. I'm in India where Internet censorship is carried out only when politicians dirty secrets are written into books or made into movies. Recently there was a porn ban for about three days. Nothing more than this which would justify using a VPN.


Like I said, on the very same connection I used to enjoy HD voice calling.

Right now it's absolutely horrendous. I'd say on the lines of that string connecting two cups which can transfer voice.

I use BBM Voice and Video pretty much all the time.. I use it to call my wife and daughter, we're in a different city.. BBM Voice and Video are awesome! Voice ia clear and video is clear..

I'm stumped. Definitely weird.
My BBM voice quality continues to be great.

Just a guess, but I wonder if there are some sort of regional servers that make the quality change for some people while not for others.

Yes it's based on regional servers. Back in 2013 BBM voice had an outage for a month literally on android devices & they narrowed it down to some technical infrastructure issue.

I'm using the blackberry priv. Voice quality on BBM is garbage when calling another priv. Android is not a good OS for BBM. That and no video of course. BB is pretty much done.
