As someone who wants to see BlackBerry return to a profitable state, I applaud this move. They seem like an unobtrusive way of doing them and wont take away from the user experience too much.

    Depends how they handle them
If they do it Instagram style, it's ok
I don't use Instagram, but have seen how they do the ad placement, genius

That's interesting ... except that I question the visibility of the "updates" tab. Either that, or all of my BBM contacts ignore my updates...

I like Twitter's method (similar to Instagram's) and Channels seems to be going Twitter's route.

Posts that appear in our feed (Updates tab) every so often along with being invited to a channel is like a profile being promoted.

I just hope promoted invites don't appear in the Hub like a normal BBM invite would.

That's a very nice move from profit point of view but from the consumer end(well for me) it's pretty annoying. What I would've appreciated is have another ad free version for like a dollar an year or something like that. I don't know how many other users would appreciate this move either. I dislike comparisons for the most part but one big reason why Whatsapp sells is because it's ad free, and it's pretty reliable for cross platform. BlackBerry to BlackBerry, BBM is the most reliable thing ever but Cross Platform (to my experience) isn't so much, I feel like it lacks headless support.

Realized I pretty much complained about reliability in a thread about ads =d forgive my lack of sticking to topic(but I think I did for the most part) but I don't wanna delete it as BlackBerry typing is easier than deleting
