| | Trouble Fixing Browser Issue on 1st Upg to 5.0
I am having trouble fixing my Internet Browser for my 8900 after I upgraded it from 4.6 to 5.0 (5.0.411). I have posted twice about this, once in another CB Thread (which I have quoted below) and once on another site's forum (BlackBerryOS.com - Thread Title: " HOW TO: Browser fix for AT&T on 5.0 OS using BBSAK " (same username, bottom of pg2 to start of pg3).
CB Thread " OS 5.0 version .411 Quote:

However the main issue is with my regular browser. Most pages appears as "bare-bones" watered down link-only wap pages, and in my Options > Browser Config screen I have limited choices.
I have come across other posts discussing the AT&T Browser Fix, and it seems similar to what I'm experiencing, however I am with Cincinnati Bell, not AT&T, and the steps to the ATT Browser fix do not translate to Cinbell (namely, I cannot download a zip file of the Service Books, I can only request redelivery of them to my device using the online BIS interface).
Any suggestions? Many times when an app asks you to "Choose your provider" I either choose AT&T or "Other" (Cincinnati Bell is never one of the options given), and typically that works fine. Do you think I can use the AT&T Service Books (I.e., follow the AT&T fix steps as if I did have AT&T service)? | I have to believe there is a way for me to get my Browser fully functioning again without downgrading back to 4.6. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hi,
This is what i ll try to do if i am in your position.
1.Downgrade back to 4.6 and make sure that your browser has the option " Internet Browser".
2.Go to your phone options>advanced options>service book. You can see all the service books from your provider. Hold down the alt key and type SBEB.You are going to have a pop up window saying the legasy store enabled.Hit the ok.
3.Connect your phone to your pc and from the DM go to Backup/restore and then Advanced. You can see two columns. The left is blank and the right has all the information from your phone including the service books.Go to the right column and try to find the Service Book.Highlight it and in the middle of the two columns you can see an arrow in order to backup your service book to your pc.You can now see the Service book in the left column.Above the left column youu can see the "File", go there and with highlighted the Service Book select the Save.Save it for example in your desktop.
4.After that do a clean wipe of the phone and load the OS 5.0.When the phone succesfully load the OS 5 avoid to connect to your network.
5.Go to options>advanced options>service book and check if there are some service books there.Delete them all one by one.Hold down the alt key and type SBEB again.
6.Connect your phone to PC and open DM.Go to Backup/restore and then Advanced. On the left column go to File>Open and select the backuped Service Book from your PC.Highlight it and with the arrow between the two columns send them to your phone.
7.After that check if your browser has the option " Internet Browser".
Hope to help you.

Thanks for the advice. That sounds like a good idea. I'll try it out and see if it works.
Thanks again

Okay so I followed your advice and it worked perfectly. However I am now having problems restoring my 3rd Party Apps (which I had backup up prior to downgrading back to 4.6). I used the instructions in the CB Thread on "How to Back-up 3rd Party Apps", but when I try to reload my Apps using AppLoader and the .alx file I backed up, I receive an Error message saying "This application is not compatible with your device and cannot be loaded."
Any clue as to why the .alx file would not be compatible with my device? I am back using the same OS version (5.0.411) as I was when I created the file, so I'm a bit confused as to what went wrong.
Thanks again for all of your help.

It really could be exactly what the error message says. A lot of apps have different versions for 5.0 and some of the earlier versions don't work. You might have better luck installing them all again one-at-a-time. Then restore your data backup to get as many of the settings back as possible.

The original poster wants to get the native BB browser working in 5.0. Your first suggestion was not to use the browser, and the second was not to use 5.0. No offense, but neither helps the poster in the slightest. If it were impossible to use the native browser on 5.0 I'd say your posts have merit, but there are hundreds of us using 5.0 and the default browser. I wouln't call ou out on it if you weren't so smug about it. "Seems simple to me... give up!"
The reason the browser fix is necessary is because the browser doesn't install properly if it ges put on the phone before the service books. That's why the fix is to delete it, put the service books on, replace the browser, and then resend the service books to update. If the browser fix worked but left the user with older service books, probably a quick resend is all that's necessary. Log into the E-mail setup app and have them resent to your device. Then try your app installations and most of them should work fine. Anything that's been updated specifically to be compatible with 5.0 will have to be downloaded and installed fresh rather than from a backup.

if you're restoring your apps via a crackberry guide, make sure the alx file is in the same folder as all the apps you're restoring, the guides i've seen always mention to do a search for you pin, then drag the files out to the desktop, but what this does is moves the alx file out of the folder, which when you searched for it, it WAS in the folder they just show up separately in search results. so, drag the alx file into the folder, then load desktop manager and try to restore the alx file again.
