Default New to Java Dev

I'm motivated to learn to develop BB Java apps. I've got JDE set up and I've even experimented with the sample applications (hello world and others available on the BB dev site).. So anyways, yea, I'm motivated... but...

I seem to only learn by hacking. I learned other languages by using open source applications. Is anyone willing to share any of their source?

I'm interesting in developing a scrobbling client so any developers with applicable and similar code and a willingness to share, please send me a PM.

Regards,

Juan

There's plenty of example code around. Look at the threads in this and read some links. Just do some research, it should be easy to pick up, you can't always create apps just by copying and tweaking code.

BlackBerry development is an interesting undertaking. RIM's documentation leaves much to the imagination, to say the least.

Best of luck though. It's best to just jump in with reckless abandon. Really.

You can mess with some of the JDE samples.

I too am new to Blackberry development (although I have a fair amount of dev experience including a little with the Palm Pilot that I did on my own.) I think between the tools RIM provides as well as presentations, documentation, tutorials, exercises (with solutions) you should be able to find pretty much everything you'll need to get going. It took me perhaps two hours to get the IDE up and running (had to download the JDK and the new version of the IDE and that took time) and do their "hello world" example. Furthermore, all their material is free. I'd say kudo's to RIM for making getting started both free and easy.
