jarvistoma - Yes you can put .76 on it, many people have. Make sure you delete the vendor.xml file, you can find it in your hard drive > program files > common files > research in motion > apploader
It is a really small file, but if you don't delete it you cannot put newer firmware that is not officially released by your carrier (AKA Verizon).
Your might not see that an update is available when you go to Blackberry Desktop manager, if it does not show it there you can go to the same folder the "vendor.xml" file is and use the "loader" program it should recognize there is a newer firmware ready to be loaded on your Storm.
p.s. You do have Verizon right? They ONLY carry the 9530 not the 9500, the 9530 supports CDMA, which is the type of cell phone towers Verizon uses, the 9500 only has GSM radios, not CDMA. I just noticed that you put storm 9500 in your profile information. If for some reason you really have the storm 9500 it will NOT use the Bell 4.7.0.76 software, there is a software update from Vodafone that is 4.7.0.78 (p.s.s. the .78 firmware will not work on a Verizon 9530 Storm)
