Default To all those "Don't worry about memory.." comments...

You guys who often say not to worry about memory need to understand RIM has really messed up here and needs to be sued. We MUST worry about memory.

Why? Becuase when the memory runs low, my Storm automatically deletes my calendar entries!!! That is UNACCEPTABLE RIM!!!!! Get it together! It also deletes my email. Both are set to keep "Forever".

It is like Windows XP deleting your "My Documents" folder when the hard drive runs low. Can you imagine where Microsoft would be today if that happened?

I have upgraded to the Storm 2 becuase after my OS 5.0 upgrade, it deleted 140 calendar entries without warning, then prompted me to delete applications. Friggin 20MB that drops to 0 within a few hours is the reason!

If it wasn't for RIM's superior email, I would go back to a Palm.

So, no more "Do not worry about Memory" comments please. This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. RIM you better be reading this and better find a solution!

Good luck with your lawsuit, ha.

Here is a really easy remedy for you, sync your calendar with Google Calendar and your emails are still in whatever Internet email account that you have. This is not the end of the world.

A few pointers, pay attention to the applications you install and issues that are reported for them. If you go download a brand new app then you run the risk of being the one to find out it has a memory leak. There are a lot of things you can do to prevent running out of memory and losing your calendar entries.

I never have memory go below 30 mb. I don't worry about it, I let quickpull do it's thing (well, I use to. Now it needs assistance) and memory has never been a problem for me.

I set my TiVo to keep forever too but if it runs out of memory, guess what happens?

Don't worry about memory, its no big deal..

I have never heard of someone losing that much memory in such a short amount of time. You might want to close your apps... And solve your problem!

I do close apps. I have about 20 programs and no themes. Nevertheless, RIM should not delete my personal data without my knowledge. Bottom line.

I know there are workarounds but we should not have to bother. I already have a backup on Outlook. It is just a pain to resync, especially if i don't have my PC.

If your pc was running low on space and deleted your personal information, i could suggest you back up your data to an online site such as X-drive as a viable solution, but i dont think it is practical. I think RIM should delete applications or the phone should shut down before it deletes PERSONAL information.

Can anybody else confirm that calendar appts, tasks, contacts, ect can be lost if the Storm runs low on memory? This is the first Ive ever heard of this. Ive had many low mem situations, but usually dont worry much about it.

what are the 20 apps you have? Maybe one of them or a combination of them is causing your memory problem.

Could be. In fact I am sure of it, but it doesn't change the fact that it is deleting my data without my knowledge!

That doc is talking about 'device memory', and not application memory, so I guess Im a little confused about what problem this thread is talking about. My app memory gets very low occasionally, but my device memory where the emails and appts are stored is always stable, with a lot of free space.

Are you talking about low app memory or low device memory?

I believe that your TiVo will refuse to schedule new recordings in that case. It won't ever delete your KUID (Keep Until I Delete) recordings behind your back. (I have two Series2 TiVos and one Series3).

I am talking about App memory. My App memory starts at 18-20 then drops to 0MB depending on how heavy i use my BB. My Device memory is in the 800MB range. I don't use that memory. Anything i can store to the Memory card goes to the Memory card. My memory card has 4GB free.

All calendar, emails and Applications MUST be stored on the App memory. We can't control that. Please correct me if I am wrong. All i know is that when my App memory goes to zero and i do not pull the battery, my calendar and emails have been deleted.
