Used the 9100!
I got my hands on the new Blackberry 9100 flip phone the derivative of the 8100 series pearl and let me tell you it is one sweet phone. It is one of the most unique and beautiful flip phones I've ever seen. At first, one would notice that it's a bit bigger, longer, than the usual flip phones; well it's a Blackberry and has a much larger screen.
On the front it has a lovely translucent LCD display which shares its background colour with that of the phone. The digits and other display on that thing look simply delicious.
On the back we have our camera, though I didn't see a self-portrait mirror. I wonder why that is.
The top panel of the flip phone has a very thin and sleek feel to it when you pop it up with your thumb tip. First things you notice is that its screen is nice and big with crisp colours. The keypad will seem familiar as it is from the pearl. One peculiar thing I did notice was that the trackball was further buried in the keypad than it is on the regular Blackberrys. I think it was made that way so that it doesn't touch the LCD display of the top panel. It's odd at first, to use the trackball, though it must be said that I had gotten used to feel of it in the brief 10 minutes I had with the thing.
The interface is really quite similar to pearl with pretty much similar features. I didn't notice much difference there except maybe the screen was indeed much nicer.
My overall impression of the blackberry then has my mouth watered in anticipation of what the future holds for blackberry phones. It was odd having a flip phone blackberry, to be honest. I always thought of Blackberrys as sort of a PDA type device and it seemed different to have it contained in a sort of flip phone chassis. Though, I got used to it fast; I'm sure blackberry fans would really love it. It's beautiful, unique, light, portable, easy to use, and.. well .. it's blackberry! you know it's got to be something special. Enough said.
Just thought I'd share my experience with you lot. Cheers.
