Has anyone tried unlocking an att bold and seeing if that option has come up?

Personally, I don't have a problem. Mine lasts longer than one day, and I just plug it in every nite. Lo and behold, the next day it is full again. And if I needed even more power, batteries are pretty cheap. I don't feel cheated. AT&T never promised this ability. If I was concerned about the ability, I would wait, instead of buying the first day. To see what shook out.
If most of you are having trouble with your AT&T, well, it was only released 6 days ago. My AT&T gives me 30 days to change my mind. Go back and get the beloved Curve.
But, dang, do something. Call. Complain. Cancel. Take action. If enough of you do something, something will change.
Michael | Not my carrier... But if someone could start a thread "with a Take action Title"; post the AT&T customer service / complaint email and phone # (OK, I'm not sure about the phone # = on hold forever) and let the power of Crackberry make AT&T fix this (or should I say un fix it ).
Maybe post it under Bold 9000 instead of the AT&T thread as I think most of us Bold'ers frequent this section of the CB forum. I rarely look at my carriers forum here on CB, the only time I need my carrier is if I want something or I need to complain.
As far as I know, you're the only Bold customers that I know of that are victim to this. I would love to see this change because of a Crackberry revolution.

Honestly, I would have to agree with dynalmadman. Complaining about this on these forums will solve nothing except to get others frustrated over a feature that most will not use, or care about.
Just like the election last week, you need to have your voice heard by the company, not by all of us.
Another thing is the fact that I live in a 3G area, but work in a EDGE area. My battery lasts all day and then some. So in my opinion, the 2G/3G switching doesn't use much more battery than anything else.
You should see all of the complaints people with Blackjacks and Treo 750's had when they were introduced on the 3G network. As a matter of fact, it was all said before with them. My Tilt had some battery life issues at first, too. But it could last a day plus, also.
Also, as I had read somewhere before is that AT&T does want all of their phones to be 3G from here on out, as it is easier to maintain one network for them, probably.

So, i had to ask, just to make sure i didn't miss something somewhere. | no voip calling is only done on the bold. 3g lets you make calls and transmit data at the same time. if you have a bold just be in an area with 3g and make a call and browse the internet at the same time. good for long and boring conference calls :]
curve [edge network] cannot do this

Wow, I came here looking for a quick how to in order to disable 3G on my ATT bold, and that is clearly not forthcoming.
I am really a little shocked to learn that the AT&T iPhone has an option that the Blackberry Bold does not. I spent part of the day telling a friend the many shortcomings of the iPhone, and the long list came easy to me. However, turning off 3G on an iPhone is two menus away from the home screen.... no big deal and I did it on an AT&T demo to the store manager's amazement (after he told me it could not be done). So WTF is up with disabling it via SIM on the Blackberry?

There were a few posts above that call for mass complaining. Ya Ya ... there are many differences of opinion as to whether it's an issue or not to have the option and/or that AT&T wants to go all 3G . But the question remains why just you guys... I'd be pissed too!

Some phones are designed with the 3g and network selection tied in together, so if network selection is blocked out, they can't change 3g. I submitted a trouble ticket with AT&T today about such and will be submitting one with RIM as well.

I was a little surprised when I started using the bold (att branded) and found no 3g/2g selection option. The only way turn the 3g icon off is menu: manage connections: mobile network but it disables all radios (voice and data). Even if you turn data off (menu: manage connections: mobile network options: data services) the 3g icon is still there, but data connections is off (signaled by the BB icon turning off). Weird, on my n78 and k850i (sorry to bring up non-crackberries) they both had the feature to turn of 3g.
Possibly if you turn off data when not in use it might give better battery life. I have not tried it yet, battery life has not become an issue yet for me. However, I do miss the battery life of my old palm treo 650 (sorry again) which would go almost a week without a charge, granted no 3g, no wireless, no gps.

See post #6 in this thread, the Bold can do it. Just that it's been AT&T'd with that feature unavailable. :~|

In theory it could be modified with a software fix, but that then relies on RIM to do such.

I ran into an issue this morning that would have made this option very helpful. The area i work in has 3G coverage but the 3G network went down, thus did my phone. Very aggravating to be standing in the ATT store watching everybody on older phones talking away while I couldn't do anything with my 7 day old Bold. That's when the rep informed me about ATT disabling the option. The outage lasted about 3 hours and I was sitting around with a very expensive paper weight. I still love my Bold but was very disappointed about this.

If it didn't there is an issue, when the 3g in my area went down for 1 hour I was working off edge, and it worked, just slower and drained the battery a bit faster.

thats what i thought but the ATT folks (bberry tech support and store personnel) spent a lot of time trying to get it to work. When 3G came back up I was immediately up and running.
