Why does everything have to be from Google? Try using a calendar, mail server, whatever from another company! Maybe it will work better! Maybe you will like it better?

Where was Google Mail, Google calendar when Blackberry was invented? | Done and done! I've given up trying to sync OTA to Google and just installed pocketmac (ugh, what a chore that was). In my defense, though, just as BlackBerry creates a certain amount of "service lock in" in that it's sometimes difficult to migrate away from their stuff (BB Messenger, BIS Email setup, etc), so too does any PIM service. My PIM happens to live on Google. If it happened to live on Yahoo or on an Exchange server or in Palm Desktop, I'd be asking the same questions, just about those services.
Out of curiosity -- is it easy to sync a BB to Exchange servers with a BIS account?

WeatherEye is good as well, especially since it'll update the icon with the latest weather. Other programs I use are BBSmart Alarms Pro, Opera Mini, Google Maps.

(p.s. I know I'm asking a few questions that I could JFGI, but some of this easy stuff is good for giving people entries into the contest. I know it's not ideal forum etiquette, but I figure people like helping a guy out AND potentially getting something out of it. )

| | 10. Other Must-Have apps You should install!
First off welcome to Blackberry. You've started out with a great device in the Bold that should treat you well. Just a quick run down of some must-have apps would be: Viigo which delivers news, weather, flight search/status, in-game sports scores, stock quotes and portfolio data, entertainment, hotel and restaurant reviews, blogs, and much more. FlyCast is a internet radio app that has over 1000 unique channels of music, news, & sports that you can listen to and watch anywhere. Nintaii s a brain twisting puzzle game of rolling blocks and switches. Be ready to roll your block over the course of this 100 level challenge. Just like most of the greatest puzzle games, Nintaii has a simple concept and yet proves to be very challenging, electrifying and attractive!
For all your other needs check out the CrackBerry Mobile App Store.

I just got started with my Bold (switched from Symbian), so I'm not in a position to answer most of your questions. However, I just wanted to let you know that I do have it on authority from RIM that full Mac support should be available much sooner than later. Last week, I participated in a Bold training "webinar" for AT&T agents (which I am), and inquired about future accommodations for Mac users (which I am as well). The presenter replied that it is a "definite." So, for now, PocketMac is our best bet, but full BB software is in the pipeline!

as you start to use your bold over the next week or so, you can basically do everything you've done on your treo, but in a different way.
there are solutions, but just have to find them.

Where was Google Mail, Google calendar when Blackberry was invented? | I'll second this. If we are comparing these devices from a consumer perspective only, the Blackberry is going to lose. If Google compatibility is the benchmark, the G1 has a huge edge, the iPhone next.
I'm a corporate user, and the BB is great. Dieter, you need to somehow see how BB works with a BES or BIS. If you're not using it that way, it has effectively been neutered. Also, while I sync all my work mail, calendar and contacts through the BES, I also have e-mail accounts via Hotmail, Verizon, Yahoo, Windows Live and Google. I can have all of them sent to my BB with no issues.
I like Windows Mobile, but both it and BB have their stongest category in corporate Exchange synchronization. If that's not part of the round robin, then the results won't be meaningful to a LOT of us users. While the G1 has the Google edge, it can't sync to Exchange at all. Zip, nada, nothing. The iPhone can, but it does it poorly with limited functionality.

I switched from Palm to BB two weeks ago, and the three things I miss are threaded SMS, bookmarks in the native media player, and Kinoma.
(and my thumb gets sore scrolling through web pages instead of just tapping on a link)
I bought Berry Tunes to stream podcasts, but it falls short of Kinoma. My main gripe is when podcasts are streamed, there is no way to go to a certain point in the 'cast. A new update I just downloaded is supposed to mark and save at 10 second intervals, so I will reserve my frustration until after I find out if the podcasts resumes at the last saved point even when the stream is lost going through network dead zones (as opposed to manually stopping it, or pausing for other apps).
I have not found good answers to the threaded SMS or bookmark issues. . .
