Default Round Robin: Android Casey Needs Help With Blackberry!

Hey Crackberry Addicts!

This is Casey from Android Central and continuing our Smartphone Round Robin, I'm spending quality time with the Bold!

First impressions? The hardware is simply stunning! And the screen, oh the screen!

Anyways, before I start. I do have a confession to make: I used to use a Blackberry Curve! But it's been over a year since I've last used Blackberry as my daily driver and I've forgotten pretty much EVERYTHING. So I'm going to need your help.

First things first, let's tackle my email woes. I know Blackberry is supposed to be an email beast, so i set up my gmail account onto the Bold and email is supremely fast on it but have a few issues:

1. How come my BB email and my web Gmail aren't synced together? Are my IMAP settings wonky? How do i fix this?

2. Why is it that when I send an outgoing email from the BB, I get a copy of it in my inbox? And how do i stop this?

3. Is there anyway to set up the BB to recognize my Gmail filters and labels?

4. I could be wrong, but on my Curve I thought SMS messages showed up in the main messages app as well? From short usage, it looks like only email and BBM shows up in messages while SMS has its own app? Anyway to create one unified inbox? That would be cool!

Loving my time with the Bold, but any help would be nice! Thanks Guys!

BlackBerry Internet Service

For your last question, go to Options in the Message folder, then General Options. Under SMS and Email inboxes you can change it to Combined.

Its a common issue, go into your BB Web CPanel and block incoming messages from your email address. Its because GMail saves email's as conversations in the INBOX.

Since you know the Curve you'll find the Bold to be quite intuitive. Good luck and have fun!

Welcome to Crackberry.com

I see it is your first post, joining today. The bold is a wonderful device and you will have a lot of fun with it.

Great apps that I currently use:

AT&T Navigator - IMO, one of the best (if not the best) navigation apps on the market.
Twitterberry - get your twitter fix on the go.
Crackberry Launcher - visit the wap CB site from your BB and d/l it.
FileLock - got pics you don't want to hide because others who know how to use a BB can find? Lock them from being seen and only a password you know can unlock them.
VibandRing - If you dislike vib then ring and want them at the same time, get this app. There are other useful apps there as well.
AIM - free app to get your IM needs from AOL.

For this, you can change it. Go into the Messages folder, press options>general options> then scroll down to SMS and Email inboxes, and change separate or theme controlled, to combined.

Enjoy!

Default tips

some tips and shorts....

first go to phone screen then press menu and go to options.

there you can combine messages, sms, email etc to one inbox.

turn off "dial from home screen then you can assign speed dial numbers to almost all letters.

use "c" from message screen...that is the short cut for compose

just hit it fast...if you hold it it will speed dial the contact u stored to "c"

having a full qwerty means you have plenty of short cuts, unlike the iphone where you need to go through several pages!

recap on shorts from home screen:

"A" address book
"B" browser bookmarks
"F" brings up proFiles
"U" calculator
"M messages
"L" calender
"K" lock k/b
"N" bb messenger
"O" options (main options)
"P" call log (phone) i just hit the green button to go to phone
"D" memo pad
"V" saved messages
hold "Q" to go to vibrate only profile (good for entering a meeting)
hold "W" for voice mail speed dial

in message app:

"R" reply
"L" reply to all
"F" forward
"C" compose
"T" top of page
"B" bottom of page
"Space Bar" scroll down(also works in browser...no need to mad scroll with ball)

those are off the top of my head there are some i missed but i use those the most.

also i like the fact that i can press "R" to a sent message i sent and it still replys to the contact i sent to, not back to me...pretty smart!

fyi : i set my screen to 40% bright and radio to 3G only...Better on the battery.

4 mac try "missing sync" app

Just to reiterate, press the space bar twice for "." and it auto caps your next letter. Do the no password trick in BIS for the option to choose "imap", otherwise it defaults to pop3. Have fun.

Welcome to the blackberry world.

I have to say, the android model is awesome but I don't like the G1 casing at all.... A huuuge disapointment.....

As for your filters, don't think they apply onto the blackberry unless you go through blackberry internet services (BIS) and set it up there...

Need aplications.... Check out the treo ladies thread... Huge list there

Take care

Casey, in your messages, go to options, general options and select "hide sent messages". That should stop those from showing up in the inbox.

Good luck with the Bold! I'm looking forward to your take.
