Yeah, unfortunately you do have to follow directions to pull off a debrand.

It seems it is even more finacky than just when restart occur. As soon as you turn off/on your Mobile Network Radio OR WiFi Radio it always reverts back to the default settings... And in the case of AT&T branded Bold's, default of 3G. http://forums.crackberry.com/f83/can...3/#post2540333 Quote:

i prefer debanding anyways and think its the easiest thing in the world to do. the directions are easy and straightforward. as long as you follow them, it take 2 minutes and a few clicks to get it done and isnt as bad/hard as people make it sound. reinstalling the OS is the PITA part of it.

i put in there 4.6.0.282 | You have to add the number in brackets also. Exactly how it shows in the Help Me screen.

| | Engineering Screen Locked for Me now
Hey all here is an update for me. I was using this e-screen all last week without problems. ALT+LEFTSHIFT+H and it was working great. I could see a number of valuable information. However, I attempted to access this screen today and all I get is the Help Me! screen. Some software patch must have been pushed down from AT&T because it worked before and I have not updated anything.

| | 8 digits are 9?
Hi all,
I got this working once before... then my 30 days ran out
I tried again at the generator, but now my Bold is showing a nine digit hex PIN; therefore, the generator is not working. My apologies if I missed the reply to this issue. I promise, I read.

| | Little Help ?
Hey, found this post looking around for a cure to my USB sync issues. On a Mac running PocketMac, made the mistake of trying out the leaked version of RIM Destktop for Mac, and when it gave me some sync issues, wanted to revert to PM. Unfortunately when I tried, could no longer sync as it doesn't seem to see my BB at all.
Found another thread about something similar, used the escreen to check my USB connectivity. In the USB screen, when I connect, it shows a connection (called "True"), so at least that is good. Down the screen it shows Mass storage as Enabled, but Media Transfer as Disabled. Then further down it shows a chart of something called "handles" which are numbers 0-10 (not sure how many it has, just looked at the first few). That is followed by "state" and "name". 0 was Open called Control Channel, 1 was Dead and called RIM Cal_Task, 2 was Dead and called Java_Loader, 3 and 4 were both Dead and called JVM Debug and RIM DT respectively. These may have been "Dead" since I was not syncing/didn't have DT open/whatever, which I am going to test out when possible.
I was wondering if anyone with a Bold has been to this screen, or would be willing to take a look and see what they have in there, and post back. The instructions I was following were to reset a sync as per Mark/Sync, company that makes Missing Sync, and they were telling users to toggle the "True/False" under connection if when they were in the screen and USB connected to the Mac and it still read False. Of course my issue could not be that easy.

There is no possible way to damage the blackberry via software, unless the "doings" is something directly linked to hardware, like voltages or crap like that.
Recovering a nuked blackberry is the easiest thing to do, you just need patience and not get desperate. By nuking i dont mean just the usual wiping of the device, for that is called bricking. Nuking is having no mfi file, no mep, no nvd, nothing on it totally blank. Bricking you still have the MFI file or the other basic files, which is what most people do, they "brick" their blackberries while trying to install a new OS. To get the device out of the nuked state the multiloader is necessary or a set of command lines.
So therefore, its not possible via conventional software (debranding, unlocking bla bla bla) to paperweight a blackberry. IMEI and PIN change mistakes is not in this category, they make it semi-paperweight XD still functional but useless in real life environment.

Wherever this info is coming from it is an incorrect statement. If you have an unlocked phone you can generate a code and type it in at the "Help Me" screen and this will open the escreen. | Well using the instructions in the link, I was able to get to the help me screen, generate the "password" from the generator and switch back (by holding the bb menu key for 2 seconds) to the help me screen to type in the generated password. Worked the first time. Thanks so much for posting this and making the generator!!! For information, I got my Bold August 2009 from the source on a 3yr - so it/was locked and branded to Rogers. I have not unlocked or unbranded it. I have upgraded to 5.0.0.190 and then 5.0.0.314 (current). The goal of mine was to "tweak" the setting that was causing the frequent reboots.
I had narrowed it down to the data transmission/protocol in the 314 update due to my troubleshooting. The protocols used by weather eye, msn messenger & bb messenger seem to trigger the reboots for me. With these 3 apps uninstalled, I no longer have reboots, however I like (love) I'm, so I want to find the solution without downgrading. Now with the event log and changes I can make to the radio/ data options - I should be able to "fix" my reboots until the next stable leak or official comes along.
Again, thanks to all who contributed!!!
