MSN is perfect, you can simply download from BB easy. Be honest, the browser is slower than my iPod touch when it's on wi-fi. However, it's a big improvement. 3G is amazing (still compared with iPhone).

I read a lot of article about Chinese COD file. I tried to install myself but i almost screwed up the BOLD . I got app 205 reset. But the phone is more resilience to the human mistake. I can reset itself after a few restart. I am totally stunned.Compared with the APPLE (sorry that I must), the Mac OS on the iPhone or iPod touch can't have that ability itself but relying on the iTune recovery.

Also, I am using PocketMac. RIM QA should be fired who made a lot of mistake on their 4.1 release. They even screwed up the media card name "B"lack"B"erry with blackberry. So I have to rename it myself to blackberry, sync my music and rename it back to Blackberry on the card.

The iCal bug still exists for the BOLD. I can't sync my contacts and calendar very well. waiting for more genius out there to help

John

Hi,

Can someone help a rookie out by posting detailed instructions on how to upgrade my OS to the one at PCCW? Screen shots would even be better.

Thanks a million!

Default Steps to install Blackberry OS 4.6 with Chinese support

I don't know why I can't post the entire instruction. I'll try to post piece by piece.

The following is what I did during the passing long weekend in Canada.
My BlackBerry 9000 is with Rogers in Canada. After the OS update, I now can compose and view messages and web pages in simplified Chinese. (to be cont')

Default Steps to install Blackberry OS 4.6 with Chinese support

(1) Download the OS executable from: "https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=C559DA2BA967EB820766939A658022C8"

Choose BlackBerry Bold (9000) Smartphone
Pick the version v4.6.0.243 (EastAsia). The version marked (Multilanguage) does not contain Chinese.
Download the executable to PC.

(2) Close BlackBerry Desktop Manager. Install the OS on PC by double click the executable: 9000EastAsia_PBr4.6.0_rel243_PL4.0.0.135_A4.6.0.12 6_PCCW.exe

Choose English (this is the language for installation).

Click OK.
Follow the instruction and use all default settings to install the OS files on PC.

(3) Go to PC folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
Delete file: Vendor.xml

(4) Start BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

Choose “Application Loader”

Click the Start button under “Add/Remove Applications”

In East Asian Language and input Support section, select
Chinese Pinyin input Method
Click Next to install the OS.
Wait until the Blackberry is fully rebooted. This make takes a while. Don’t do anything during this period of time. No manual reboot is necessary.

(5) Once the new OS is installed and rebooted. You can go to Blackberry application list and select “Options”-> Language. Click Language, you will see choice of “English (united States)” “中文(简体) (Simplified)”. This is to select the interface language. In the “Input Language”, you will have the similar choices. When composing email etc. just press “alt-enter” will switch between pinyin and English.

(6) I was activated BES. After the OS refresh, the BES is no longer activated. To re-activate, I have to sync BlackBerry with Outlook on the PC that is connected to corporate intranet (via VPN).

Default No HTML email support

I have the same problem. I don't know whether it is the problem of the Chinese OS or the BES server (are you using BES?). I noticed the old version of BES server does not support HTML email.
