Revision: BlackBerry OS 4.6.0.167

Summary
Overall a stable revision

Points of Interests

Menu’s

Instant messaging folder no longer present, looks like there were some ideas that have been tossed around, as to whether or not there should be a dedicated folder to manage instant messaging apps, the verdict no, well so far anyway. Ultimately this will be part of what the theme creators for the Bold will have to decide anyway.

Memory
Usage is somewhat reliable, soft reset with apps installed produced 44.6MB of free resources. The 24 hour mark shows memory use has dropped to 38.2, and will vary considerably with different usage. Less available memory resources does not solely equate to performance draw downs on blackberry devices, although some memory issues have been noted.

Media
Finally the good ole folks in Waterloo have brought back media indexing, this virtually eliminates the
process load issues of previous versions, although we understand this was done for internal
testing. This in our view is an example of the stability these revisions have reached, for Rim to turn
off internal environment testing elements. Really Good Sign of Progress.

Missing Feature : GapLess Playback is a must on any device that supports large capacity storage.

Wifi
Overall stability has been improved upon through version .162

Conclusion
This revision demonstrates stability improvements, memory usage alignments that represent a more accurate view of application memory usage.

If there is a side note to be made it’s that the latest revisions to come from Rim indicate an internal effort to remedy many of the issues users are having and testers are reporting, while other version were fraught with issues, the latest revisions to come from Waterloo, have been improved mostly on all fronts, hopefully that trend isn’t short lived.
