Default Switched cell phones... now reception sucks?

I finally got a Pearl 8130 after having an 8703e and have been loving playing with it, it can do so much more than my old phone. However, I've noticed quite a few times when I try to get on my browser I get this message:

"You are not currently in an area that can handle data communication. As a result, the Browser cannot retrieve any web pages."

I haven't moved, haven't changed anything except the phone and I've always gotten really good reception in this apartment. Could it really be the phone??

I would talk to sprint about getting a new sim. the sim card might be damaged or something to that nature.

Sprint is CDMA and doesn't use SIM cards.
