Default How To Sync Contacts From Your Macintosh To Your New Blackberry 8120 (pearl)

So I had a hellish couple of days trying to get my contacts into my new Blackberry Pearl by way of my Macbook Pro. I tired everything short of spending $40 for The Missing Link Software. I unsucessfully tried getting the contacts over via Bluetooth, via email, and dragging to the phone as a mass storage device. Below is what worked – I’m posting to save everyone else out there the agony I went through.

Since I'm a new poster, apparently I'm not allowed to post links

1. Download Pocketmac for Blackberry at the blackberry dot c o m site followed by

/Downloads/browseSoftware.do;jsessionid=p59XYocEz2jGsfVwD+Cm9 A**

2. Download driver update from same page as above (don’t know if you need it, but it couldn’t hurt.)

3. Download needed driver for the 8120 at the pocketmac dot net site followed by

/private/BlackBerryDriverUpdate3.1.2.zip

4. Install all the software & drivers.

5. Connect Blackberry to computer via computer’s USB port with cable that comes with the 8120.

6. Get all the contacts you want into a Group in Address Book. I called mine “Blackberry Contacts.”

7. Open PocketSync,

8. If you’re syncing with Addressbook contacts, click on “Advanced Preferencs, click the name of the group you want to sync AND click the box for “No Categories” – this is to address a glitch in the software. Note: this will sync all the contacts in the group you want AND all the contacts you have that are not assigned to any groups. To avoid having those contacts copied over, I put the word “Blackberry” in all the contacts I wanted copied over. Then I created a new Smart Group called Do Not Sync by having Address book group all the contacts that “do not contain” the word “blackberry” in the notes field.

9. Run pocket sync and with luck it will work as mine did

Question

I commend your efforts. Congrats on finally getting somewhere with it. I use a pc and am scratching my head, wondering if there's a better way than just sitting in a coffee shop all day entering my contacts individually. I would settle for typing them in on my computer keyboard and then transferring them to the phone. I already uploaded the BB Desktop Software though, and selected Typical rather than Advanced. I now see no option for Contacts. I would think a Contacts area would be a given, without having to go an "advanced" route. I have a long way to go. If anyone has a tip for a newbie, it would surely be appreciated.

Thanks!
