| | 6GB blackberry plan on iPhone?
I've read through many threads on the internet (including crackberry), and have not found a definitive answer to my question.
Can I use the Rogers 6GB BB plan on an iPhone without incurring extra charges?
From what I understand, whether you have the 6GB BB plan or the 6GB iPhone plan, both allow you access to the generic data internet.com APN to the tune of 6GB.
The difference being, the 6GB BB plan also allows you access to the BB APN which is compressed data carrying the traffic for instant messenger, push mail and other RIM specific services, which also gets included into this 6GB bucket.
That being said, you should be able to use the the iPhone (the internet.com APN) for surfing, e-mail, youtube.. maps.. etc without additional charges. The only thing is, you would not have visual voice mail.
This is what I've pieced together, and it does make sense to me.
I'd really like some feedback from people that KNOW their facts about this.
I've read many "you need an iPhone plan for an iPhone and a blackberry plan for a blackberry" statements.
For example, I know that using an older blackberry plan with 15MB of data on an iPhone will give you a phone bill potentially in the $1000s, and I know that the 6GB iPhone plan will not allow you access to the RIM network, therefore no instant messenger or push mail.
Thanks for any enlightenment

You should be fine. You can use the BB data plan for iPhone at no extra cost, but not the other way around, cause the iPhone plan can't access the BIS. I was advised by a Rogers rep that if you signed up for that promotional plan, to ALWAYS ask for the BB plan because that way you have a choice as to which device. If you got the iPhone one (or for that matter any other smartphone) you can use it for data only, and no BIS... so no push e-mail / bbm. At least this is what I was told! Hope this helps.

I'm wondering the same thing. Perhaps you should post this question to Rogers Reps on Crackberry.com!?

you cannot interchange your data packages with different devices and expect everything to work properly, for example, if you have a 6gb bb data package you cannot use an iphone on it because they use data differently and are classified differently, so you will run into problems eventually.
You of course can put your sim card into any device and it WILL work (meaning you can use data) you will just end up paying for it in some cases. The only time you don't pay for it in different devices is when you have a "generic" data package, which there are not many of anymore. If your not getting charged for data when you switch to a different device then you are getting lucky because they have different classifications for different devices as i have stated. BB, WM and Iphone all have their own sets of data.
Having said that, your question also asks about how it works, so you MIGHT be able to use certain services on your iphone with the bb data package but what's the point? nobody really needs 6gigs of data, i've met one person since we started selling iphones who actually goes over 1gig in a month so why don't you just get the $35 iphone data value pack since it comes with lots of data and unlimited txt and visual voice mail etc. and not risk having issues or messed up bills that you have to argue with billing about.
BTW one of the guys i works with uses an iphone and in all the time he's owned it he just hit 500MB of usage TOTAL and it took him 6 months to reach that amount and he uses it all the time.
Hope this clears things up for you guys.
Cheers

You can use a 6GB BB Plan on the iPhone, you will not occur any extra data charges (as of April 28, 2009) However, you will not be able to use any BB features on the iPhone (BBM, Push Email,Maps etc.). Only the internet feature will work.
That being said, if you really want to make sure you will not occur any extra data charges, you can call up and just ask if you have any un-billed data charges.
-------
This is a message for anyone that has a 6GB iPhone Data Plan and wants to use the Blackberry (w/ all Blackberry features enabled). Since switching over from 6GB iPhone to 6GB BB will not be possible anymore because the SOC has been removed from the system (Grandfathered), (Only Applies for Rogers, Not Fido)
Call 1.866.931.DATA. or *611
Inform the rep to add a $0 Add on, this is called "Blackberry.net APN", this enables the blackberry feature on any non-blackberry data plan.
Give them this SOC (Product Code). APN3CON.
Do not ask them to change the plan, just add on the code.

Do not ask them to change the plan, just add on the code. | I have the 6GB iPhone plan. I tried to swap it with someone who had the 6GB BB plan since I now have a Bold and the other person wants to get an iPhone.
That wasn't going to happen since Rogers won't transfer the data plan alone. We would have to transfer the entire plan including phone #. So I had the
APN3CON (3 reps later). I then had to get tech support to activate the bb apn, since the !old did't automatically get connected to the blackberry network.
The first tech support rep told me I could surf the net but couldn't get bb features to work with my current data setup. The next tech rep told me it was not
Possible to get the iphone plan working with bb and have full features. The next rep tried to activate the bb apn but it wouldn't take, and told me it
Was due to the iphone plan. The last rep I spoke with finally found that there was an expiration set on the apn3con option that pretty much caused it to expire
Once it was activated (expired!?!?). The then had to go through 4 data reps to get the expiration thing deleted. 4 days later, - have a fully working Bold working
In harmony with my iPhone 6GB plan. I still have visual voicemail on my Iphone when I chose to use it (tethering on 3.0!) And I have all bb features woriking!
What a journey, but worth the end result. I've called a few timed to check if I had any additional data charges show up on my account, and nothing so far.
