Default I have enabled the GPS on my Verizon 8830 World Edition.

Hello,

Long time reader here - first off let me say thanks to everyone helping out on the GPS issue. I have been battling Verizon and their "locked" GPS on the 8830 for probably about a year now, since the phones release at least. I have finally come to the conclusion of my long winded battles, and I have provided a YouTube video to show you. I'm finally somewhat satisfied with my Verizon phone, this took far too long...

Here is the video: YouTube - Verizon USA Blackberry 8830 World Edition with GPS Unlocked

Thanks
Tom

Details on how you accomplished this (or how it is that you are privileged enough to have VZW unlock GPS for you)...

...or you're a troll, and you are simply attempting to fool the community.

I would encourage everyone to not "feed the troll" until he proves that he is not one. A "teaser" video is of no use to anyone.

I've got my gps on my 8830 to work using a bluetooth gps receiver. If you really have accomplished this, why not put up explicit instructions?

This would be a fantastic breakthrough. Two things:

1) I believe that some GPS programs work if you purchase VZ Navigator. Do you subscribe ($10/month) to VZ Nav?

2) BES clients were recently given the ability to use TeleNav ($10/month) to unlock the internal GPS on Verizon phones. Do you subscribe to TeleNav and are you on an exchange server?

8800 with 8830 case. I love how he keeps on repeating... "Verizon 8830... it's a Verizon 8830... on my Verizon 8830" in the video. I think everyone would know what it was if they simply saw the case and logo. We all know what a Verizon 8830 looks like from the outside.

If I had made the video I would have shown the network connection screen (showing VZW network connectivity) and an actual shot of the GPS startup and fix times, not a static map image and a static coordinate image. Actually, I probably wouldn't have even made a video... I would have just posted the instructions to do it and cut everyone loose.

BTW, the GPS screen on the 8830 will never have Start GPS on the Menu and will never show coordinate fixes like he shows in the video.
