I'm having the same issue as mentioned directly above - I don't get the "Use your phone's data connection" option. The only option I get in the bluetooth setup assistant is to synch my address book.

Btw, Verizon apparently has software for VZAccess manager for Mac & Blackberry, but not through VZAM.net. I've been told to go to the downtown San Francisco store to get it.

Default Tethering

1.) Pair the phone with your Mac via Bluetooth using the Bluetooth Setup Assistant (this is the easiest way)

2.) After pairing, be sure to check the box that says "Access the internet with your phone's data connection"

3.) For verizon this is the information you enter as the username, password and phone number:

Phone number: #777
Username: [your phone#]@vzw3g.com
Password: vzw

*** For other carriers use the following information ***

Cingular
Phone Number: *99#
User name: ISP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1

T-Mobile
Phone Number: *99#
Username: [blank]
Password: [blank]

Sprint
Phone Number: #777
Username: [blank]
Password: [blank]

4.) For the modem script make sure you set it to "WWAN Support"

5.) Click continue

6.) Your all finished! Just click on connect and it will dial out and make the connection for you. BTW your speeds are around 250 - 300k (real speed) for the connection.

When your connected your phone should say "modem active" at the top. By the way make sure you have a data plan otherwise it will not connect and in the "odd" event that it does, you will pay out the nose in data charges. Oh yeah calls can still come in while your connected but they terminate your connection if you answer the phone.

Hope that helps,
Cheers!
I tried tethering and I did all the steps but I don't have a choice to enter the modem script and I didn't get it to work...said there was a problem with the ppp server. Any ideas?

A video would be fantastic. I tried doing this on lepoard with my new MBP, but it did not work. I followed the steps carefully, but I am afriad I must be missing something.

As a side note, it doesn't matter to me whether I have to tether with a USB cable or use bluetooth - I just want to be able to use my Curve as a "modem" for my MBP.

THANKS!!!
DG

Hey guys Im sorry for the delay but the video tutorial is finally done! I will upload it when I get home because the file is 300 MB (compressing that took quite a while). Its in HD so its nice and clear for everyone and has detailed steps for everything. Once I upload it to vimeo (the HD youtube) I will post the link in here and I will see if the mods can sticky it in the MAC forum. I made everything pretty universal and put in all the info for the 4 major carriers (tmo, VZW, sprint, and ATT). If there is still any questions left after the tutorial let me know and if need be I will make more tutorials for you guys if you need it.

After going through this tutorial [which I found to be good], I still couldn't get my Verizon 8130 to stay connected beyond thirty second. But now it seems to be fine and has been running for over an hour [I'm posting this via the bluetooth teather].

The difference? I turned off my wifi and unplugged any wifi antennas I had connected.

Default VZAccess Manager & PocketMac for Blackberry

After searching and trying numerous options, I called Verizon to hook up the Broadband Access.
Robin from Verizon wanted to wait to make sure it was working correctly with my Blackberry 8830 and, of course, it was not.
She did some thinking and came up with a work around that was easy. Most importantly, it works.

Download and Install the VZAccess Manager for PDA's (even though it says it only supports Motorola Q).

Download and Install PocketMac for Blackberry.

Open PocketMac for Blackberry

Open VZAccess Manager

Follow the directions and do not hook up your phone until it requests you do so.
Hit connect and you're are online.

You don't even need to have VZAccess Manager loaded to make this happen.

Actually I think it only "appears" we get no love when in all actuality we get less attention (ie: software to do this) because its easier on a mac than a PC...LOL

hey there -

i have a macbook w/10.5.6 and a verizon bb8830 and i can't get past step 1.

which is probably my own ignorance. i've never used bluetooth with my macbook. i did successfully PAIR them - but i don't see where your step 2 is. when you say "check the box" - where is that box? after i paired it - it just says it's paired. it keeps telling me it's paired but not connected.

?

thx!
