Default Updating Third Party Programs

OK, I religiously back up my BlackBerry 8300 Curve every morning, and once a week I back up my Third Party Programs via the instructions by John Clark (http://www.blackberryforums.com/rim-...arty-apps.html)

My question is: when I see which third party programs got backed up, it does not include ALL of my third party programs. Most alarmingly, I don't see Trackit: Custom Edition listed.

Is there a way to get all of my Third Party programs backed up, so that if (God forbid) I have some sort of castastrophic failure, I don't lose a bunch of stuff?

From my experience every version of DM past 4.2 misses things.
I have one PC that I keep it on for just this reason.

I only lost a few apps when I switched BB's, and the fact that I save all my emails with activation codes, and the help of one of the developers, I got them all back. It's just that for some reason, they don't all backup. At least the ones I had.

DM can be very useful for backing up data. To back up the application itself, it's better to use JavaLoader.

Javaloader is installed as part of the DM. You can search your machine for it.

Here is an easy way to back up your files.
1. Create a custom folder.
2. Copy Javaloader into the folder.
3. Open up a DOS or CMD prompt (Start, RUN, CMD)
4. Change directory to the folder "CD c:\myfolder"
5. Connect your Berry via usb cable
6. Make a text file of all of the modules on your Berry:
Type javaloader -usb dir > "c:\myfolder\filename.txt"
This will give you a listing of all of the program modules on your device.
Go to the bottom of the list to see the non-RIM stuff.

For every file you want to save, type this:
javaloader -usb save "c:\myfolder\myfile.cod"

You'll have to type the file name exactly as it appears in your .txt file, or
it won't be transferred.

If you ever need to restore a file, follow the steps above, except instead
of typing "save" you would type javaloader -usb load "myfile.cod".

I hope this helps.

Reply if I get you hopelessly lost.

ma077146 -

Sounds complicated, but I will give it a try on Sunday or Monday; if I have problems, I'll E-mail you. Thanks!

ma077146 - With the Internet out on my PC (thunderstorm), I ran a Search for 'javaloader' but found nothing by that name on the PC. Once I can get back on the Net from my PC, I plan to DL Javaloader, and then proceed. (Unless you see this first, and can give me a link to Javaloader. )

Javaloader is a Blackberry development program and happily it is contained in this program here JL_Cmder Javaloader Utility. Once installed your will find Javaloader.exe in C:\Program Files\JL_Cmder.

Javaloader commands are very literal. You tell it to do something and it will just do it. One of its commands is wipe and if you use this it wipes (really wipes) your phone.

The way that I look after my 3rd party is to insure that I always keep the original program and its serial number and reciept in a folder on two seperate PCs. One backs up the other. I make sure that whenever I buy a product I always get a copy of the product file. Ususally a zip file. I copy CD based products onto the PC as well.

The Blackberry backup is not very good at what it does. This may improve with a new version of the Operating system due soon.

Ok, friends, last night I downloaded DM 4.5; among other things, it now picks up Trackit: Custom Edition when I do my morning backup to my PC.

So, it looks like I won't need to dl Javaloader after all, but I thank all of you for your help!
