Default BB Messenger Problem...I've searched and searched

Newbie here, this is my first ever forum that I have registered for that's solely dedicated to a cell phone, so far this site and the information I have found has been tremendously helpful!

One particular situation I can't seem to find a solution to regards my Blackberry Messenger application...

My girlfriend and I have been using BB Messenger without any problems, however just today, I noticed that the check mark and the "R" or "D" aren't showing...and when I look up her status, it says that she is unreachable.

I went ahead and followed everyone's advice; I pulled the battery out and put it back in with the Curve off,...and I had no luck. I then pulled the battery while the phone is still on, and still no luck!

After finding a post on another website, it said for me to go to the Advanced options menu and register my phone....I did that but it didn't solve anything.

What's weird is...I got a message from her and it actually came through, but when I send her a message, I see nothing but a check mark. And the happy face on the main list of messages shows a blue happy face with a speaker-like icon in front of it....

Does anyone know what's going on? Tomorrow morning I'm going to try and tell her to delete me and I'm going to delete her in our contact list and re-add...but aside from that I can't really find anything else.

Any help from you experts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance

Remove her from your BlackBerry Pin Messenger, and then readd her. Also, on her device, make sure she is set to 'available', and not 'unavailable'...

Thanks a lot for all your responses! We actually did just delete each other and re-added and it has worked! We're back to normal again.

Now I got another question;

Does the R mean that the person has already seen the message, or does it just mean that the message has just been received, but not necessarily read? I know for sure that D means delivered so I'm guessing R means that the message has been read, not sure though.

Thanks a lot for the warm welcome too! Appreciate the responses.

R = Read

So no, there is no way any of you can get away with saying "I didn't receive it" *that used to be my excuse of not replying.. hehehe*

I wonder if one can turn the wireless connection off, then read the message! Thus no R would be displayed at the other end. Then again, I suppose once you reconnect, it would then tranmit that it's been read...

hi i have read your posts and was wandering if anyone could help. my girlfriend lives in california and i am studying in england UK. i was on the tmobile network using my pearl 8120 last year and it worked well on the blackberry messenger. she is on verizon wireless and has the pearl 8130. i have moved networks to 02 in the UK. in the corner it says EDGE when i have full signal and when not it will say GPRS on the new network i have changed to the blackberry 8900 curve. we are having major delays in messages on the blackberry messenger. she sends messages which dont come through or they do after a while or not at all sometimes on random occasions. i have the same problem when messaging her sometimes her status is just unreachable but i call her and she says that i should be getting the messages as its not unreachable. this issue is really irritating and was wondering if their needs to be an update or a change of settings? any help would be much appreciated thanks in advance

R= Read D= Delivered.... Also, apparently, Bell/Telus have been having problems with messenger lately saying "contact is unavailable." I don't know if it's all companies but I know those two for sure... It's driving me nuts! At first I thought it was the new messenger v5.0 but then my friend was having the same problems on the old messenger and she called Bell and they apologized for the inconvenience. Then they told her they've been getting a lot of calls on that particular problem.

To add to this you could have an A=Acknowledged. This is the same as “R” for read. Believe it or not, this is theme-controlled. On a Vzw-provisioned bb, using the Verizon theme will display the “A,” and switching to one of the RIM themes will make it be an “R.” Yes RIM has been experiencing server issues as of late and have seen the effect all over. It is frustrating but it happens, they know it and maybe soon it will be resolved.

I'm curious as to when they fix the problem will there be a new download for BBM 5.0?? Should I keep it as i have it now or should I go back to the old BBM? which will be easier to get the new one??

Well, yesterday I tought it was my 5.0 causing the problems... I got back to 4.5 and still had some issues with the delivery. From what ive read so far, just seems like BBM 5 leak just got the Rim servers to go crazy...

I have ppl from rogers/telus/bell that are having the same problem, even with 4.5

So I don't think going back to 4.5 is worth it...

I have the BBM 5.0 on my 8330 with .160. BBM is working great for me, but have a question. I have seen where you can have it show what you are listining to on your mp3, to other people in your contacts. Mine does not have that option, simply available or busy. how do you get that option to show?
