...since you've acquired the 8800. Can you 'acquire' one for me, too?

Wouldn't you rather wait for the curve? It looks so sexy. Besides the second that you commit to a blackberry, rumors of a new one start to surface. I've entered a whole new world, and I love it.

Default If You Can Wait, I'd Give Back the BlackJack

Someone please tell me that it will be out before my trial period with the Blackjack (Cingular) is over, early June, i gotta get rid of that thing....I'm waiting for the Curve to be my very first Blackberry.
Hi NewBlackGirl,

I'm new to CrakckBerry.com, and I just read this thread, but I've had BlackBerries / RIM devices for probably 10+ years. I used to work for BellSouth, and we had the original RIM Messaging devices - pre-BlackBerry - I don't even remember what they were called. I'm also a PDA junkie, having had Palm, Pocket PC, and RIM. At one time, I actually carried three devices - Pocket PC for PDA, BlackBerry for Corporate Email, and normal cell phone. This was about 5 years ago, before convergence really happened. I now have a TMo7290, and am eagerly awaiting the TMo Curve release.

ANYWAY - You asked about returning the BlackJack. If you're still in your trial period with the BlackJack, AND you can take it back, AND you have another phone you can use for the interim while you wait for the Curve - I would suggest you return it.

Here's one key reason why - Because You Can. What I mean is that you have an opportunity to extensively use both devices. By waiting, you'll be able to compare your own personal experiences between the two devices.

Here's another key reason why - Battery Life. BlackBerries traditionally have GREAT battery life. I've heard that the BlackJack's battery life is HORRIBLE. The fact that Samsung GIVES you an extra battery is further evidence that this is true.

A third key reason why is Berry411 (do a Google search and you'll find it - I'm too new to the forums, so I can't post a URL for you). You may not have heard of it, but it is an incredible local search program. It is shareware, which means it's free, but you should pay the developer for it if you like it. It makes the BlackBerry exponentially more useful and it's only available for BlackBerries - not BlackJack and not Windows Smartphone devices.

Finally - Dependability. This is the key reason that I choose to stay with BlackBerry over all the other PDA/smartphone options. BlackBerries just work. They have historically not been the sexiest, or the most flexible, or the most extensible (although that may well be changing with this new generation, and especially with the Curve), but they have always been the most USEFUL. In other words, I've enjoyed playing with all of the other devices I've ever owned, but when it comes down to actually GETTING IMPORTANT THINGS DONE (phone calls, address book, business emails, personal emails, calendaring, tasks, memos, password storage, SMS, browsing, IM, etc.), BlackBerries do the best job - hands down.

So if it's important to you for the device to actually work, have good battery life, and get the most important things done simply and well - you need to take the BlackJack back and wait to try out the Curve. (You might even consider trying a BlackBerry 8700 or 8800, then trying out the Curve... IF Cingular will allow you to do this...)

Thank you, mstaples23, that is just the information I was looking for. Hopefully it will come out soon, b/c I have only one return/exchange opp in the 30d window that ends next week. I went in to the store to ask around and the Cingular guy tried to convince me to keep the BlackJack, but he uses an BB8800...I'm definitely waiting for the Curve.

What about Calendar/planner. I'm afraid I will miss my palm for jotting down appointments and having a nice view of my upcoming calendar with Blackberry?

If he is the same guy that sold you the device, he's probably saying to keep it so he doesn't lose his commission! Who in their right mind would have a 8800, and NOT convince someone else to get one, or something better than a BlackJack? Scary, to say the least...

Wink

Yeah, I wasn't sure about why he was encouraging me to keep the Blackjack, he wasn't even the person who sold it to me....???

I got the BJ because I didn't want to become a "crackberry junkie" but secretly wanted a BB. I wasn't sure what the fuss was all about. But thanks to Crackberry.com I have learned so much. And being unsatisfied with the BJ after only a week, I feel I can make an informed decision. Can't wait for my Curve.

Navilyn speaks the truth! If you are going to run out of time port your number to verizon on a free phone (they now have a 30 FREE USE return policy) with every intention of porting back to cingular from Verizon when the Curve comes out.

Ok, so I sell these phones and currently have the 8800. From what I have used and seen the 8300 keyboard should be much better to utilize vise the 8800. With smaller font on the 8300 keyboard it is stil mangable.

So it leaves us with a choice.
Will a better camera; stero bluetooth; music streaming and spell checker replace the 8800.

Too bad they are both on the EDGE class for CONUS.

Arada: for me it was all about the size and weight. The lighter and smaller the better as far as I am concerned. I think phones with cameras are a joke generally since all the pictures are TERRIBLE no matter what. 2MP aint good enough to print out and share. The colors are usually horribly off and the lighting is non existent. So I would take that out of the equation and focus on what YOU need. For me, I need something small and light. That's #1. But that's prob different than what your top "need" might be!

Curve on it's way....
