Default Two Basic "BB Professional" Questions

Howdy --

I searched the boards and decided that: (1) my question hasn't been addressed yet, and (2) there are no dumber, more basic questions about the BB Professional software here than the ones I'm about to ask.

I've just installed the BB Professional Software v 4.1.4.17 on our Exchange 2003 server, and added the single user for which our licensing covers. Here are the two questions I need answered before I inflict this on our other BB users:

Our dozen or so users currently get their email fine ota, so I've turned this off on our BB Professional software. Is there a reason I would want to turn this on, and if I do, will everyone get two of every message?

Also, no where in the software or documentation can I find anything about synching calendar data. Is this an option, and how do I turn this on/configure it?

Thanks!

Before you activate your BB users on the server you should stop however they are currently receiving emails otherwise they will receive duplicates. This could be as simple as a forward in AD.

When you activate a new user on the Blackberry server you will get over the air calendar sync by default. This can be switched off on the device if required.

also no question is to stupid to ask

there is a ton of power in the software your working with and you are able to do a ton of things

its valuable to ask as many questions as you need to to figure out how to really use it effectively. There is quite a few administrators on this forum.

Basically I take it that they're receiving email via POP3/SMTP, correct? With BPS/BES you can do PIM mapping, which should be relatively *automatic* so people can synch contacts, calander, notes, etc.

Also, by using BPS/BES users can 'lookup' global contacts in the NAB.

It also creates a secured connection to your internal network, allowing people to open up intranet sites, AS/400 and RDF sessions.

If you start using BPS/BES you'll have a lot more control over your users and how they use their devices (if you wish).
