BBM 5.0 does have a built in QR barcode reader but it cannot read barcodes that have text in them.

Default Blackberry Messenger 5 does it

Blackberry Messenger (BBM) can read the codes and open the web site for you. Open BBM and then click "Scan a Group Barcode". When it is in focus, it will prompt you if you would like it to open the site. So far this is the best QR Barcode reader I have used, and it is most likely already on your phone!

for scanning UPC codes, I use edocrab (barcode spelled backwards). It does a decent job, but is beta and could use some updating.

Best of luck!

I've tried 4 different scan programs. At home I couldn't get the QR reader to work with the codes on my screen at all.

Now, I gt it to read using my screen at work but it won't bring up the URL for google favorite places. It only brings up the google home page.

Something I am doing wrong?

Use ScanLife for BB Storm 9530. Works great. Go to getscanlife.com on your Storm. The NeoReader does not support 9530 yet even though its website said it's compatible.

Default Beetag QR Code reader is better than Scanlife for Blackberry

I like Beetag better than scanlife because it is faster and more accurate and doesn't take you to an annoying advertisement webpage.

The drawbacks I am still seeing:
- The Icon is to big and hard to know when its selected.
- There is still a delay and scanning error and no way of knowing if the code
is in the correct location
- It would be awesome if this supported vcard imports.
- It would be awesome to see a live capture process like you have on the iPhones.

BTW I am using a BBcurve 8330.

Well According to arien123's link he posted, the code reader that is supplied with the BBM 5.0 does everything BUT reads text. I personally could have a lot of fun with this barcode concept and it would be nice if RIM would make a solo reader app that does it all based of the reader from BBM 5.0.

I'm coming into this conversation a bit late here, but can someone tell me where I should find this option on my 9530's Blackberry Messenger? After opening BBM, I see no option to select "Scan a Group Barcode" or anything like it. Has that feature been removed in OS 5.0 or is it possibly in a different place?

Either way, can anyone suggest their new/different favorite barcode reader since this conversation began?

Thanks,
Andrea

I'm trying to use BBM to scan a QR CODE but it doesn't work. I tried the Scan a group barcode option, and let it sit on a barcode on this site: The Kaywa Reader

It didn't pick up on any of them. Any advice?

Do you have BBM 5.0. If you don't, you need to download it to be able to scan group barcodes
